OBESITY !!!!!!!?????
Disclosure to solve obesity!?
Public health organizations and the restaurant industry have announced an agreement that would require chain restaurants to list calories on their menus and menu boards.
They claim, “The menu labeling agreement reached this week will not only help consumers to make informed decisions about their health when eating out, but is a critical part of a broader re-orientation to a society of prevention and health promotion.” Do you think this is true. I am happy because I am one, like you, who will find this useful but do others really care?
“Obesity is a growing problem in our nation where more than 1 in 3 Americans are overweight,” said Senator Carper. “With our busy lifestyles and more Americans eating out, diners need easy access to nutritional information. Our menu labeling compromise is a common-sense solution that provides consumers with the tools and resources they need to make healthier decisions when eating out.” (COMMON SENSE SOLUTION???)
This compromise will allow Americans to be see the nutrition information of their foods choices before they order. This includes calorie information on the menu board at both fast food and sit-down restaurants.
Restaurants that are part of a chain with 20 or more locations are required to do the following:
• On the menu or menu board, the number of calories per menu item;
• In a written form, available immediately to consumers upon request, additional nutrition information, including total calories and calories from fat, and amounts of fat, saturated fat, cholesterol, sodium, total carbohydrates, complex carbohydrates, sugars, dietary fiber and protein.
The agreement also requires the disclosure of calories per food items on vending machines owned by individuals operating 20 or more vending machines. This bipartisan compromise will not require individually owned restaurants or “mom and pop” operations to disclose nutritional information
WHAT DO YOU THINK?

No, those that don’t care won’t care. Those that care already take action at restaurants by asking for things on the side or having dishes prepared a certain way, eating only half and taking the other half home, etc.
Unfortunately, we live in a time that seems to be absent self-responsibility.

I think you know if your going out to eat that you’re going to eat unhealthily, to me it’s as simple as that. I like my cheat meals, and am a very healthy person. To each their own, you can’t force people to care about their health, the select few do, and that’s that. There usually aren’t enough of us to cater actually nutritious restaurants around so we have to make do. I have no issue. Where i start having an issue is if they start attempting this universal healthcare bull**** and my tax dollars start going to pay for caring for the these pathetic pigs and the myriad of problems THEY’VE created for THEMSELVES…..no one has any right telling me I have to pay for that.

It will not be solved until people use self discipline and self deprivation instead of self indulgence…which where we seem to be at this point in time. Just my opinion.

What restaurants need to do is cut the servings in half. THEY need to step up and do their part in helping out.
So cheese burgers are going to be smaller and that order or fries may not be as much as you expected. No more supersizing options either
So that pasta bowl that could feed a family of six is now a pasta bowl that feeds only one.
So the ribs are no longer drowned in BBQ and that baked potato no longer looks like bacon bits, sour cream, and cheese exploded out of it.
Calories being there to view will not help, cause many people just flat out dont care.

I’d have to agree with the others. Eating out and eating healthy is really tough! I’m traveling for work and it’s tough to have to eat fast food and look for a healthy item to eat. For example, McDs has a grilled chicken club which sounds reasonable but it’s slathered in mayo and weighs in around 700 calories!! 45% fat 30% carbs and 25% protein… Not exactly healthy.. Add fries and a coke… You know where it goes from there. Luckily I got it w/o mayo and subbed a side salad w vinegarette and a water and picked chicken outta the bun. Point is,it takes a lot of effort to eat healthy given our choices and I agree that most people won’t make the effort…
