The train gets derailed

September 20, 2007

I always heard the saying "things happen for a reason" and to this day i haven’t questioned it! So the fact that I have had to derail all my plans for the rest of the year because i picked up two different injuries and a visit to the operating theatre is some sort of sign right?

Well the first injruy had me depressed because it kept me out of the gym for too long. I must say though that it forced me to rest and THAT i clearly needed. But then to return to the gym and then pick up another injury that very week was another blow to my pysche! That set me back another two weeks! Then to visit my doc a week later to find out that i need to go under the knife, well you can imagine that by now, my motivation and drive was shot to hell!!

So after i got over being pissed, I realised that i needed the break because i was running my body ragged and wasn’t taking care of me. Now i’ve set some short term goals and i intend to see them through! This time should have been my bulking phase, and sure i’ve put on weight but it sure as hell aint the kind i wanted. I’ve gotten over feeling sorry for myself and am focused on what lies ahead.

Over this short time, i’ve come to understand that it takes a special strenghth of will, determination and sense of self to not fall in the trap of being lazy and uncommitted to achiveing your goals. I could not live with myself if i was anything but who I am and i love the fact that I am fit and healthy and I am surely going to keep it that way!!! so its back to the gym in another week and back to my program. Its been pushed back but its gonna happen.

The challenge begins!

September 3, 2007

The past two weeks were the longest of my life! I haven’t touched a dumbell or a weight machine since my doctor gave me strict orders to leave em for two weeks! I must say that it motivated me to hit the cardio room though and man i really needed that push having been avoiding cardio for some weeks now, i got into a groove especially last week! Cant say that the diet did extremely well though for which I am not proud but its behind me now and I KNOW (and my trainer will make me pay for it too) that i’ve got a lot of work ahead of me!

It being my first week back in the weight room, i am inclined to just continue as if nothing happened! However, having suffered some of the pains and discomfort over the past two weeks common sense will prevail! Yes i am still on the bulking program, with one week gone, every single detail matters now! I am determined to keep the diet clean and hit the weights consistently and hopefully be back up to my usual strength in another week or so!

So the challenge truly begins this week and through this blog I shall be tracking my progress! I chose to work back today to see how much damage was done and to see how my program will need to change to facilitate any challenges. I get to hit the gym early today due to my office’s early closure - yipppeeee!!! Again, with the plan to put some size on it (the back), it gets hit twice a week along with the shoulders, while everything else gets hit once. My legs are the easiest part of my body to develop, and with the spinning classes i teach and do for cardio, that will get them ripped in no time! The other parts (arms) get worked each time chest and back/shoulders get done, so the program for them will not be as strenous!

Today’s menu: close grip chin ups, close grip pulldown, seated row, one arm row, reverse flyes and back extension (all lightweight since its the first day). Followed by 30 mins cardio.

12 Week Program - Bulk & Cut..is it possible??

August 23, 2007

So I did the cut program and I got good results. However, I have changed direction simply because its a must! I need to pack on some size on these shoulders and bring out the depth in the back! The question is how the hell do I do that and how long is it gonna take before I start seeing serious (non-steroidal use) results! Even more so, can any of it happen in 6 weeks before i start cutting down??? I am all for doing this naturally but I figure that nothing short of pain, sweat and tears is gonna get me to this goal! Now I have set myself some targets particularly pertaining to those aforementioned body parts. I want to widen the back spread over the next 2-3 months to at least 2 inches out and add about 1 and 1/2 inches to the shoulders! The question is does that sound feasible??? I guess we’ll have to see!

Now I am a firm believer in supplementation but hey, my body can only take so much and no more! So i tried the nitric oxide to help give me the pump needed for the heavy loads i started to push but DANG, the damn thing kept making me puke! I would take it before working out in the mornings only to have to rush to the loo in the middle of my workout to puke up everything i had before gym and the night before! So what’s a girl to do, quit taking it! So no more of that!

But man it can get so confusing and frustrating when you’ve got all this work to do, all this food to eat and all this supplement to take! I guess I’m overeacting but I figure that since i started my 12 week program to gain some size and then lean out, to compete later this year, then i need to get to work. However, i hurt my back a few days ago and so I have had to take it easy. Its nerve racking not being able to do the stuff you normally do, especially in the gym!

Anyway, today is a rest day and so I’m gonna stock up on the quality food i’ll be needing for the next few days and hopefully I can get some today! The dang supermarkets closed early yesterday because the hurricane did its damage and a few places are still without water and/or electricity! Damn man, its messing me up! I already went through all my canned food and the restaurants, i don’t trust to prepare my food the way i need it! So i’m off hunting!

Until my next post!
