3 months into lifting…

February 26, 2009

I figured it was about time to start using this section of my profile!!

In Dec 2008 I wrapped up my weight loss program. The process has been one of the most important achievements in my life. I started as a 351 lb man and finished with a final weight of 217 lb. That’s a 134 lb loss. I wished I had signed up for the Biggest Loser!!!

Lots of people ask me how I did it and I might be writing more on my weight loss journey later on. In a nutshell, I was ready for my gastric bypass surgery. My insurance policy did not cover the procedure. Then I decided to give diet and exercise one last chance. I’m just glad I did.

Three months ago, I started the Scivation Tri-Phase training program found as a video series on BB.com. I decided to give it a try for the following reasons:

1) "Beast" (Derek Charlebois) has the physique I want to achieve over time. You always need a point of reference both on the "now" and for the "future".

2) The program has a reasonable duration (about 3 months of training) and schedule (4 day splits).
3) Exercise is a completely new thing for me. The Scivation video series is simple enough, yet challenging enough to get you going. Also, having the videos explain the correct form, how to use the equipment and set up your exercise program is very helpful.

Although I haven’t seen major changes on my weight (I’m 215 lb now)…I’m finally seeing some muscle definition (which I’ve never had).

During the weight loss process you not only lose body fat but muscle mass. In my case my muscle mass was almost completely gone. Through weight lifting I’ve gained not only some mass but also energy, strength and balance. Yes people! When you are as fat as I was and loosing the weight you need to learn how to regain your balance. I do some easy yoga which has also helped on that area plus flexibility.

I know my measurements have changed as well. Need to update the site on those. I’m really happy with my results so far.

Now I’m still trying to decide if I should cycle through the Tri-Phase again, try the 666 training or switch to something else. Suggestions are welcome!!

Cheers!
