Sciatic..this is on my LAST nerve!
Went to doctor today and was officialy diagnosed with inflamed sciatic nerve….BUT he is of the opinion that fixing it should be no problem and that it should not hold me back in any way. I will be going to physical tharapy and he said if it is not cleared up in around 3 weeks than he will just give me a shot of cortosone and it should go away..I do want to avoid that however! Wish me luck and if anyone has any exercise/ yoga or Pilaties ideas to help keep it f4rom hapening again I would be happy to listen and start doing..still want to do strongman or at least a bench compotition someday!

I have issues with mine too…since you mentioned Pilates…the "Pilates for Dummies" dvd has some really good basic moves that made my back feel noticeably better right away…

sensiD and Armd I also have a problem with my back it is from a fall a few years back. When I lift or twist wrong there is the chance it goes out. Seen a doc too who said "inflamed" sciatic nerve. I just wonder will an excerise help? I mean if it gets inflammed there is no way to stop that. If I am wrong please help me. thanks. Good luck on the pain sensiD

SensiD, so glad that your doc thinks it can be fixed and in fairly short order. Physiotherapy will give you some exercises and you will probably have to do them for "homework". Best wishes for a speedy recovery and getting back into action!

Here something I did for my Hammy pull, three years ago. I rest, rest, rest. Do abs and lower back strengthening exercise to take undo preesure off the legs. And also take a HOT bath in Epsom salt and Do Tai Chi stretches in the hot bath…slowly.
I hope this can help. Injuries SUCK!!!

Have you tried stretching your piriformis muscle? Sometimes that, and your other hip flexors/extendors/rotators get inflamed and impinge your nerves. Hopefully you’re healed (or just about) by now!
