Six month and one year goal(s)…

Monday, May 12th, 2008

I just posted and setup on my bodyspace and have even submitted some before and after photos.  I have been viewing this site for some time, always in awe of how much progress everyone has made, from the small to the dramatic.  It was time for me to represent myself and share my gains and achievments with everyone.  SO since this is my first post, I thught it should be about what I am striving to do and what I have done.

On April 15, 2007 I flipped over the handlebars on my mountain bike when the brakes locked up and smashed my head.  Suffering a mild concussion and a huge bump, I was unable to exercise because the pressure built up when I leaned over.  I had also just found that I had high blood pressure, high cholesterol, high blood sugar and could stand to lose some weight.  I was at my 2nd heaviest of 179 lbs. so I had ironically started riding my bike that day to begin the weight purge.  Now I would not be able to exercise for some time as my Dr. said to do what I could but to stop immediately as soon as any pain or pressure built up.  Needless to say it was almost a month before I could walk up the stairs before I stopped feeling the pressure build up.

SO now in my September Dr.’s appointment I had some bloodwork test done where I found out I have type 2 diabetes.  My mom it seems as well as other family of hers also have it, so now began the doing part.  I educated myself with my Doctor’s help and told he rthat I would not take any medicine and wanted to lose weight on my own first ad after three to six months if I had not progressed then I would try some medicine.  I began dieting, sticking to whole wheat breads, which I ate already and cereal with some organic milk that I had not had in some time.  I began eating some boiled eggs, two a day, only one yolk, a peanut butter and jelly sandwich for lunch and maybe some wheat pasta with a little butter and garlic.  I ate like this for three weeks and started losing weight.  By the end of October however I had lost about ten lbs.  I was also able to do some light jogging, push-ups, sit-ups, and using some dumbells.  My attempt at pull-ups was limited to three and less than ten seconds just hanging.  Not discouraged I continued on.  By Christmas time I was down 18 lbs to 162 lbs.  I had a good Dinner on Christmas and actually lost a pound.  I had exercised the day before and that morning.  Go figure.

By Valentine’s day and my birthday I was down to under 160 lbs. at a weigh in of 155 having lost 25 lbs.  Since then I have leveled off and gained a lot of strength and some leaner muscle.  I can do 6 sets of pull ups at 10 reps…even at my old weight I think I could do at least 6 reps.  I have managed to lower all my levels to well within acceptable and strive to get them even better.  I do check my blood sugar every day but my blood pressure only once a week.  So my journey has lead me here where I can state my new goals.

I want to drop to 150 lbs. within the next three months, that means about seven lbs.  I don’t think I should have a problem but want to be as lean as Chicken Tuna some day, so may have to change that to 145 lbs. but we’ll see in the next few months.  I also want to drop my body fat of 20% down to fifteen percent by this time next year.  I hope I can inspire someone as I have been inspired.  Good luck to all of us!
