You see, what had happened…..

Friday, May 15th, 2009

I guess it was because of the stress from work, and feeling overwhelmed, but there were a bad few months of training/eating.  Basically throughout February, March, and April I was unmotivated, lazy, and didn’t want to make any changes.  I let work get the best of me by bringing it home and constantly stressing the success of a particular project.  I let bad eating compound itself into a snowball that told me it was ok to have that donut.  I took off a whole month from the gym, at first from a sinus infection, but then later as an excuse to sit around and feel bad.

BUT NO MORE!!!  The entire time I was doing this I felt even worse b/c I had made the commitment to myself for what I wanted in a healthy lifestyle, and especially the direction I wanted to take my body in.  It’s frustrating to think that I let it come to the point where I wasn’t finding the energy to get to the gym, or tell myself that it was ok to continue eating crap.  Right now I’ve re-upped my dedication and already feel better about it all.  Work is stressful, but I can’t carry the burden around at all times.  It’s important to me to be successful and excel at what I do, but it’s more important to me to take care of my mind/body/soul.  I am happier when I’m eating right, going to the gym, and essentially doing my best to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

I can’t say that I stumbled on this realization by myself though.  I did receive a lot of motivation from this site in general, but also from a few particular individuals.  One of which has been at it constantly for at least 5 months, with great results.  This person has been frustrated at the process of results, but has maintained perseverance and a great attitude through it all.  They may not see what they want in the mirror, but trust me, the results are showing and the progress is amazing.  When I hear about the aspirations, dedication, and sacrifices made by people it really is inspiring.  It pushes me harder to achieve the results that I want!

I plan on more actively tracking myself using the utilities on this site, because without accountability I have let myself revert and regress.  I know that with the great attitudes on this site it will help push me to new levels.
So cheers to everyone on this site!  And especially to those particular people who can bullsh*t with me about anything/everything, yet still drive me to a committed purpose of healthy living!  You know who you are… ;)

Finally!

Wednesday, May 14th, 2008

So I was finally able to use the new Gold’s Gym that has been delayed in opening for the past few months.  The nice, new equipment was great and the cardio cinema room is pretty bad ass, albeit hard to see the buttons on the elliptical (Quick Start here I come).  Once the hardwood on the basketball court is fully sealed, then I’ll be a happy guy.  I wanted to get in there and shoot some jumpers to warm up my legs, but alas couldn’t make it happen……….yet.  I am really looking forward to when they start getting serious about doing some leagues and be able to play some real basketball again.  Hopefully I’ll be able to build up my frame a little more to bang around in the paint.

Another plus was that my buddy is back from Iraq and is helping me with some personal training sessions.  He thoroughly kicked my ass yesterday in the gym, and I will definitely be feeling the effects later tonight.  It was one of the best workouts I’ve had in a while though b/c his advice, and supersets, were just what I needed to do some more plateau breaking.

3 New Personal Records!!!

Friday, March 21st, 2008

(Hence the three exclamation marks)

Today I was able to set three new personal records on my lifts.  This is week 5 of my 5×5 strength training program, and I’ve really been seeing some improvements.

New PR:

Bench: 195 lb    Squat: 265 lb  Bent Over Row: 165 lb

I felt like I had a little left on each of these lifts and will try to set the bar higher in my final week of the 5×5 program (next week).  I’m pretty pumped about what I accomplished so far and look forward to bigger gains!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Wednesday’s 5×5

Wednesday, March 5th, 2008

I used to seriously dread doing Deadlifts, but now absolutely LOVE doing them.  I get pumped up for days when I have them on the schedule b/c it always makes me feel good and is a great compund lift.  I’m hoping to get a rush like I did on Monday so that I can just blast through the cardio portion of the workout.
