Hunger pains

Man - last night before I went to bed I felt hunger pains that were the worst I’ve felt in a long time. I was so hungry, but had already hit my days limit on calories…I drank a ton of water, had a little tea, drank some diet pop to try and satiate my sweet tooth…nothing did the trick. Really weird, my dinner was a nice big salad with salmon and gorgonzola…filled me up at the time! Damn Ben’s parents for bringing icecream into the house…it is my favorite cheat food - but I never get near the stuff because I could devour an entire carton before realizing it. I think that is what sent my hormones all off whack actually. After that, I just wanted to eat. Has anyone else had that happen before? Someone brings in a big pizza or some cheat food that you LOVE, and it just sets your hunger cravings wild? Damn that hormone ghrelin! About right now, I’m looking forward to the results of some studies regarding the hormone obestatin and the protein molecule nesfatin-1!

Anyway, I guess it was worth it, as I dropped a few more pounds. I know that this nutrition plan is way lower in carbs that what any dietician or health professional would recommened, but it is really working for me! My weight is dropping quite rapidly, which is suprising to me - I’ve done low carb / high protein diets before…but this one seems to be working better. Perhaps due to the increase in healthy fats? (Lots of natural peanut butter, olive oil, almonds, and etc.) Calories are about the same as what I was eating before, but the body for life split was not working for me (40/40/20).

This morning, I got in another amazing workout. I was feeling very weak, but pushed myself through it.

HIIT training, 20 minutes! Again lots of sprints :) Would like to get in a 4 mile run tonight.

Not quite the same but I had to go 4 hours (normally eat every 2.5hr) today between my post workout meal and my next meal and my stomach was going crazy. I have not felt that hungry in sometime. So I feel your pain. I was craving pizza, pasta, anything really. I got home and chugged a protein shake. All ok again. Forgive my ignorance? HIIT?

It stands for High Intensity Interval Training, and allows you to get in an amazing cardio session in, in a short period of time…periods of full-out sprints followed by periods of jogging/running…(the same can be done on a bike) Excellent for burning fat, while maintaing muscle tone. While incorporating HIIT into my workouts, I’ve noticed an incredible difference on my long distance runs in terms of speed and stamina. I don’t exactely do intervals. I sprint HARD for as long as I can and then jog until I feel I have the energy for another full out sprint.

I like to do it 3 days a week, the other 3 days are moderate/long run days. :)

Oh and sorry if you already knew all of that lol! As you can see, I’m just a big fan of HIIT :)

Ah, I gotcha. Just had never heard the term HIIT. We do stuff like that on the bike. Very common to loose our lunch during those workouts.

Check this out: Anybody with a caloric deficit hits what you did here. A lotta people cave, but you didn’t. However, you got something out of that situation you might not yet know.

When someone’s training like you do, you eat on schedule and after so long in a routine, your body actually keeps its internal clock tuned in to your meal times. So, when it’s lunchtime, your body knows it and starts to rev up your metabolism to prep itself for the calories you’re about to dump into your system. It’s kinda like a little kid who gets excited when they know their birthday or Christmas is coming. You had an external stimuli create that excitement in your system (releasing the same hormones that boost your metabolism when you’re about to eat) but you then had NO calories. The effect is that your body turned on to metabolize an entire meal, but had an empty tank, so it turned to fat for that energy it wanted. So when you push through a hunger attack like that (when it’s mental like it was then, not like when it’s a real physical need for food…those are bad), you can just smile, knowing you’re losing fat. Well done!
