Don't follow anyone's plans or strategies. If you don't possess the instincts yourself to dictate your development then you'll never know what you're doing and you'll always be experimenting and relying on other people for workout plans and so on. 99.99% of fitness competitors lack the mental capacity to think and feel things scientifically. Most personal trainers are joking when they give out plans to people. They get a kick of how people will follow any advice. Some guru trainer could suggest that you never work biceps again and you'd try that idea.
