Gym tourists
Friday, December 26th, 2008Yes, you know who I’m talking about. The new year will be here soon and the gyms will be flooded with the smell of new spandex, Lycra and sneakers. The ones who aimlessly walk around the gym trying out every piece of equipment, hoping by some act of God will get them to their goals. One set here, one set there… spy someone do something cool and interesting, try it out for one set of 15. Do some crunches, hop on the HS chest press…pec deck looks cool, try that for 10(interrupt someone’s super-set). Wipe down every machine, lest someone else should use it :-P. And so the dance goes on and on until eventually, they resign themselves to the cardio machines.
Not that I have anything against them…I’m all for "fit America" . It takes me back to my newbie days when I’d do the same thing and leave the gym feeling very pleased with myself and seeing little to no results month after month. The best lesson I ever learned is ‘have a plan before you set foot in that gym, before to touch that iron’. That has made a big difference in my workouts, to a point where if I don’t know, I’m not ashamed to ask for help.
