Change habits!

I saw on TV, a guy who lost 1000 lbs!  A world record. He had gotten down to 198 lbs and went out to celebrate. He said he ate a hot dog, then fries, because you can’t eat a hot dog without fries and added cheese because you gotta have cheese…Needless to say he added all the weight back!  Can you believe it?

That got me to thinking. Why am I putting my body through all this punishment?  How long can I keep it up?  What happend to the guy that lost all that weight only to put it back on and what is going to keep the same thing from happening to me?  I know the answer…I have to change my habits!  Replace my bad habits with good ones. If I  eat well and exercise regularly, in time the weight will come off and will continue to stay off as long as i continue with the good habits. I hope you can change your habits too!

Part of the problem might be the idea of going "on a diet." That conveys the thought that this is a temporary change.

If we don’t enjoy whatever workout activity we do, that could be another factor. I’ve blogged about that as well. If you "have to take time out" to go work out, then you’ve got to bring your activities with you in some fashion. "Need" to watch a TV show? Get a DVR and a TV in with your cardio machine! Like to read? Either get a book (series) or magazine you normally would read while on the couch and read it on the cardio machine. Are books/mags too small to read? Buy a netbook and download your books from amazon or some such, then increase the font size.

And Ruben - do you actually HAVE any extra weight you need to lose now? You sure don’t look like it in the pics…

I have put on a few extra lbs, but nothing I can’t lose in a couple weeks of cardio. But either way, whether you want to lose weight or add muscle mass, one must change the habits one previously had before made a choice in search of better health.

As someone who lost 60 pounds, I know the battle that people have with food. One of the greatest lessons I have learned is to avoid what social eating. People love to say, "Just one wont hurt you," but they don’t realize that the one awakens the beast that lives inside. I have to play the treats I want but for the most part I must accept that 1) I am genetically predisposed to being overweight and 2) I want to be healthy for the rest of my life so that I have a rest of my life.

from a female’s POV this reformed queen of yo-yo dieting had to 1st identify why was food more than a tool of survival, then slowly transform my mind as it would be a crime to have a tight body but be a mess on the inside. and now that i think differently about food about myself i put more care in how i treat both the inside and outside. that habit of how i felt about me is what was changed first

I"ve recently come to the conclusion that nothing will get better or bigger around me, until it gets better or bigger inside of me.. Habits, lifetstyles, or anything else that seems to control our decisions can only be managed from the inside out.. You must come to some conclusions internally before you will ever be successfull externally.. Most people know that they need to get in better shape or change their eating habits, but few posess the inward strength to stick with it.. As a person I am made up from 3 seperate componants, Body, Soul, Spirit.. For years I tried to make my soul and spirit better by changing my body.. This usually resulted in an emotional rollercoaster that caused my spirit to be dampened.. I’ve learned that the spirit behind my motivation is a powerful thing when used properly.. To this date I have lost almost 40 pounds, I have taken my body fat % from 52 to 20.. I am in better shape now than I have been in years.. People ask me all the time, how’d you do it.. Well, the truth is that with my belief in God, I finally allowed his Spirit to give me the strength and motivation to help me do this.. The key to accomplishing any goal is consistancy, well with the help of God, that has been my reason for success.. I heard a wise man once say, "an average person that knows how to complete a task, will run circles around a genius who never finishes anything". How true this is!!! Success is yours, you just have to determine that from within.. Get a plan, not necessarily a diet, and stick with it.. I’ve never met Ruben, and have no idea who he is, but the pictures of his transformation have been an inspiration to me.. Keep up the good work and God Bless…
