I have a stretch question?
Stretching..
So i joined the roller derby team, and one of the stretches we do as part of our warm up and cool down is called the "porn star stretch" Yeah.. I kid you not. I was like what the freak. did i somehow end up somewhere else..I thought i came here to skate. Being the fitness fanatic that i am, I proceeded to inquire what muscles we were supposed to be stretching? fair question right? the girl who was leading the stretches responded with, "it stretches the quads, and inner thighs" i don’t thinkt that she knew what she was talking about so i thought I’d ask here if anybody knew if laying doggystyle was an actual stretch…. ( did i just say that) I’m not trying to be nasty but I’m curious to see if this "porn start stretch" is in fact an actual stretch and what muscles does it actually stretch.
Please do not respond with vulgarities.. And if you have any suggestions on stretches for a warm up or cool down for roller blading they will be very welcomed..thanks.

Puppy Love vs. Doggy Style?
: )
If the stretch you are talking about involves laying on your belly with your legs bent like a frogs, I can tell you it was recommended to me for improving my hip situation. If you start out on all fours, spread your legs out, and lay down as far as you can, you will stretch the inside of your thighs as well as pull on your hamstrings and mess with Range Of Motion for your hip socket. After my hip dislocation, my doc warned me about rehabing ligaments/tendons in my pelvic area and also said to work on ROM. This "froggy style" (’cuz I only swing one way) stretch was on a handout issued by my Doc’s office. Now that I remember, I also did this stretch when I was taking Hapkido. Improved flexibility, possible strengthening of the pelvic girdle, plus the chance of getting hired to wear a crazy outfit in "Attack of the Horny Toads," how can you pass this up?!

p.s.- A similar stretch (though not as effective) is to lay on your back, raise your legs to 90 degress, and split them. You can then exert pressure beyond what gravity does by pushing on them with your arms or trying to force your muscles to spread your legs wider.
