Power Walking in the Rain

Gene Kelly was singin’ and dancin’ in the rain. I power walk. I don’t know what it is about rain but I get my best times in it. I must be like a race horse that can run in the mud. Even with stopping for a few seconds at a side road to make sure a car was going to stop I did it in 20:30 this evening. I can see that 20 min. mile in my future.

I’m definitely getting everything in synch better. A good stride, arm swing and breathing. It is very invigorating.  Once I hit the 20 min. mile I’ll add a set of 1 1/2 lb. dumbbells. and slowly build up to 5 lbs.

A lot of athletes, and their trainers, are sold on training with elastic resistance over weights.  Terrell Owens believes he runs faster using them. I keep adding resistance with my squats. My legs are strong, the weak link in doing squats with my bodylastics are my wrists. It is really important to follow the instructions on doing proper squats with the strength bands. A few years ago I sprained a wrist by not doing them right. It doesn’t matter what you do be it weights, body weight, yoga, strength bands, whatever, proper form is important.

The high rep resistance workout with the power walking is working well for me. I had my annual checkup yesterday and my doctor is impressed. I’m in great health. Just so long as the cars keep stopping on the side roads.
