For the past month and a half I have hit the gym on a very irregular bases to focus on specific training. I have applied for officer candidate school (OCS) with the Marines, and I have been training for the fit test. To get a perfect score (300) you must complete 20 dead-hang pullups (full elbow extension with no swinging or leg kicks), 100 sit-ups in 120 sec. and an 18min 3-mile run. I have mastered my pull-ups (22 reps so far) and my sit-ups (104 reps so far), however, I am no where near the 18 minute mark for my run (currently around 23 minutes). So, I have been working hard to lower my run time. I don’t think I will get to 18 minutes before I have to take my test, but I definately think I will break that time before I go to OCS (if I’m selected). Once I take my fit test though I am hitting the gym hard. I think I will be able to bounce back fairly quick. I just feel very deflated, and since I’m not a very big guy to begin with (damn metabolism) it sucks even worse.

I have done something incediblly stupid. I have partially torn my triceps brachii muscle and my brachioradialus while arm wrestling two weeks ago. Since I am never one to back down from a challenge, I agreed to arm wrestle everyone at a party one night. Everyone wanted to arm wrestle me and I couldn’t say no. I wish that I had. Although I never lost, I will now be forced strickly do cardio and machine weight leg exercises. I tried to do some light lifting a week after the injury and the pain was so bad that I litterally almost vomitted in the middle of the gym; that’s when I decided to have a friend of mine who is a physical therapist check me out. She said it could be a full tear, but is most likely a partial. I feel like I am withering away!
