Yesterday

I have to say yesterday was a good day (for a Monday). I dragged my ass outa bed in the a.m. despite all feelings of extreme exhuastion and slight bitterness at another day beginning just a tad bit too early than my internal clock would have preferred. I can’t fool myself anymore…5 or 5 hours of sleep just doesn’t cut it for me. I end up not being able to work out as hard as I would like (cause I’m half asleep) and I’m not making enough gains from day-to-day. Hmm…(tagent), I regress. Oh yeah, yesterday, was not so bad. After a go on the stairmaster, I hit up my back with lat pull downs, hyperextensions, straight-arm pull-downs, and seated rows. In the p.m. I get another bout with 1 1/2 hours of beach volleyball. I love getting in a workout by playing sports..so much more fun:-) I’ll run 3 miles tonight (remembering not to chow down on an enormous meal beforehand) and see if I can’t make it to the gym to workout legs this evening (no promises there, but we’ll see what happens…)

Yeah, not getting enough sleep makes training just about pointless. Your body needs a good amount of sleep to perform correctly. Not saying I havent trained on 4 hours of sleep, but it wasnt a good day thats for sure. If you find yourself not getting enough sleep, dont push your body. Youll only end up hurting yourself and setting yourself back. Are you working legs the same day you are running 3 miles? Thats a bit of an overkill. Running on leg day is ok, but 3 miles will use up that energy you need for the workout. I may have misunderstood your post.
A good rule of thumb is working a bodypart, then letting it rest 24-48 hours, sometimes more. Running monday, hitting legs tuesday, then running wednesday wont give you great gains in the long run. Yes you will see immediate results, but as weeks pass, the gains will vanish.
