A fellow police officer was shot and killed here last night as he responded to a disturbance call. Woman caller said her boyfriend was beating her, when the officer got out of his car and walked to the house the boyfriend opened a garage door and shot him. Other officers responded and drove a police unit between the house and the fallen officer to remove him from the scene. He died a short time later at a local hospital

The officer was 22 years old and gave his girlfriend an engagement ring on the 4th of July.
