Eating Habits

December 9, 2007

I have gotten used to eating 5 times a day now.  This last weekend was the first time that I had not kept it up, and I could tell the difference in my energy and also my hunger, I had my normal portions for Breakfast and Lunch, had no morning/afternoon tea, and because I had no portein shake which i normally use for my meal, so I kinda went overboard at dinner.  We had nice roast pork, so I had a *healthy* serve.  I worked some of it off the next day, but still not very good  :(   I was alot better on Sunday, by having lots of small portions through the day.

In the weekend, I made a impluse purchase and  bought the Eating for Life book, which ties in with the Body for Life Challenge, it has a bunch of really easy receipes with it centering around a good balance of Carbs/Protein. I am by nature a really lazy person but it has several receipes that even I would get off my tush and do.  And it has a nice variety as well so you dont get sick of the usual chicken/fish combinations.

A real inspiration for me to keep going at it is MissTransformer at bodyspace.bodybuilding.com/misstransformer/ ….. she started off bigger than I am but has lost a ton of weight.  She uploaded a bunch of photos and she is looking really great…. you go MissT!! Hopefully I can match and beat her :-)

Anyway cheers for now.

Progress at last!! yay

November 8, 2007

I have so far lost about 7kg which is about 6% of my bodyweight.  It has also stabilized to 107 +/- 1kg whereas it used to vary about 3kg easily in a week.  The good thing about the last 4months is that I have gotten used to eating 5-6 times a day and just have to get my tranining in check.

The bad news is that a gym in town has closed down so more of the members are coming to my gym, which I don’t mind in itself, but with those new people are a handful of bodybuilders that come and train in the morning, and hog up all the various benches and most of the weights.  My weight training has gone to almost 0% as a result.

They come in about 6.15/6.20 in the morning, so I am trying to go at about 5.30am, do my weights, so that by the time they come in I am done, and just doing cardio.  Wish me luck!!

PCOS and Weight Loss

August 5, 2007

I was diagnosed with PCOS about 5yrs ago.  At the time I was having probably the worst year of my life, suffering from clinical depression, broke my arm in a road accident etc etc etc.  I put on about 20kg that year (about 44pounds) through really bad dietary habits, and no exercise other than walking.

Fast Forward 5yrs and I am still carrying around this excess weight, I have lost some it before, but it has come back on.  It does not help that I live in an Pacific Island country where eating is second only to Rugby for the national sport, and not healthy stuff either.
I have joined a group of women at work to try and support each other to try and lose some weight and also live a healthier life though more exercise and better eating etc so hopefully it will help motivate me to try and get the weight down.  Reading through the BB.com  forums and on the internet has helped a lot, and basically I have had to totally relearn how to eat, and portions etc.  My diet is a lot cleaner than what it used to be and hopefully I will posting more of my progress of how I am going.

Thanks!!

Weight loss

July 2, 2007

So far in this last month I have lost 4kgs.  I was surprised cos I thought that I had only gone down 1 or 2.  Hopefully it will keep on going down slowly but steadily like that.  I have a long way to go, but that at this rate I will get there.

I also stocked on some cereal yesterday which I had run out of but hadn’t gotten around to stocking up on.  I tried a new flavour with oats, bananas and pawpaw in it.  It tastes really nice and does not overdo it and has no added sugar in it. A couple of cereals I have tried that has had fruit them, I could feel the sugar hitting my system, and have even been asked why my face has gone all red, and it has been from the effects of the sugar content in the cereal. (No I do not have diabetes or high blood pressure, our company sponsors a medical check yearly for all staff and I have had all my results have come back in the healthy range.)

1st week!!

May 30, 2007

Well here goes, this is the first week of my attempt to lose 1kg a week until the end of the year.  There are 31wks left in the year which means I will go from the 110kgs I am currently, down to about 79/80kg.  Technically the healthy weight range for someone in my height range is 55-65kg but I would like to be between 70-75kg with good muscular definition.

I have been training on and off for the last couple of years to be *healthy* and get some exercise in, but have not made a determined effort to work out hard consistently and to watch my diet.  Especially my diet.  There are 2 things I am addicted to, curry and chocolate.  Chocolate is expensive here, so I hardly eat it any anymore.  Curry on the other hand is very cheap and plentiful here, and is a staple of a lot of peoples diet including mine.  I have slowly cut back on the amount of curry that I eat from about 5/6 times a week to 2/3 times a week, and will be cutting it down to once or twice a week, for my cheat meals.  I have also found some yummy looking healthy spicy pumpkin soups etc which will curb my craving and also cut down on my calories and fat. I have been tracking my diet for the last couple of weeks using FitDays Food Log Software and it has been really interesting to use.  It shows you how many calories come from protein, cabs etc.  When I started last week I was averaging almost 1800 calories when I should be only having about 1200. The good thing is that it has come down to about 1500-1600 a week, so it is coming down and in the next couple of weeks I should have it down to about 1200calories.

The most important things that I have learnt from the weight training that I have done is that my arms and my chest are really easy to lose the weight and size from, but my butt and especially my stomach is really hard to lose anything from.  I look like I am 3months pregant all the time.  That is one of the main reasons why I have worked really hard this time to change my diet while I workout so I can lose the weight from those places as 90% of it is diet.  And I have changed it so that it is something that I can live with for the rest of my life rather than some low carb/low fat flash in the pan kind of diet.  Just the simple stuff ie eating fruit for morning/afternoon tea, no more just bread and tea etc.

Anyway wish me luck, I will be weighing myself on Monday to see if I have any changed from the 110mark, and also that is when I will be starting my exercise routine at the gym.  At the moment I am just doing bodyweight squats, crunches etc at home.
