Salutations!!

What happened to salutations? Are people that afraid of each other that they can’t even render a simple greeting? Or is everyone just having a bad day every day??

Greetings are not costly at all, unless there is something I am missing here. At an environment such as Iraq where women are considered a “commodity” and our ratio to men is unbelievably undersized, you would think we’ll be nicer to each other, given that we endure the same sufferings every day.  Ok, let’s forget Iraq for a second or the ratio of men to women; the number of women that attend the gym at time is very few. Mind you, my shift have changed several times and ended up working out at different hours, and seeing different people every time. I greet and I get the “why are you talking to me look!” and every now and then I get the occasional questions for tips on “how to work this body part” questions. I always answer polity, and even give all of my knowledge to that individual if needed. The next day… I say “good morning” and I get the deaf ear!!!! What is really wrong or going on with people?

I am not rude, I don’t know how to be rude to others, and not planning on starting at this age or let this place change my upbringing. I am not a tree hugger either….LOL, but I think of myself as kind human being that treats those around me as I want to be treated.  Salutations does not call for an immediate friendship or must stop and chitchat every time you see someone, it’s a simple acknowledgment to your fellow human being, if not to that gym member that you see everyday, at the same time, and place.

Be nice to one another gym rats, it’s not always about competitions!

I agree with you totally. It takes fewer muscle to smile than it does to frown. So let’s turn those frowns upside down shall we?
Here’s a huge cheerio g’day Aussie style and howdy from the otherside of the world. The one thing I really enjoy about BB.com is that we all choose to be here and spend time on this site. Strangers who may never meet still have time for each other. People from all over. It’s a shame ’some’ people in the gyms aren’t as positive and friendly. But refuse to lay down I say, put out what you want to get out. I’m with you, I’m going to keep on smilin’ cheers Sammi

well suzie, let’s face it. you are kind of intimidating. especially in the gym! when you’re working out you get that intense look about you, "the leave me alone, i’m working out" look. that’s all. i know you are just a big soft squishy squirrel though.

you should remind all of those military peeps that greetings are customs that they are to adhere to!

and be thankful you don’t have that person who won’t shut up standing around you.

Intimidating?! LOL, I can’t stop laughing?. I am talking about when I walk in or when I make an eye contact with others; I nod my head or great… just do the same, that’s all. I know I look intimidating especially on leg days …LOL. I am NOT trying to be mean, but you’ve seen me in there, I left heavy, it hurts and YES, I get the crazy eyes and “I will strap you to this bar and leg press you” look, but I am in pain then; it hurt to smile ?. Try to leg press 785lbs or squat 225lbs and see if you can smile afterwards… hahaha. Bottom line is, if and when that’s not the case, be polite.
