advice please

Wednesday, November 21st, 2007

well if you have any type of advice for me, I welcome that!

But the advice I know I need right now has to do with headphones… my ears are apparently small or something and I am forced to use the headphones that go with my cell phone since my new Rizer plays music.

My right ear is IMPOSSIBLE to get the earbud to stay in. I even took the fuzzy part off.

What to do? I have also tried like pulling my ear to find a better way to fit the earbud in. Are all of these made for men?

the neatest people are on here…

Granted BodySpace is an awesome tool, the people on here are really the best part of it!

I am always so interested to read everyone’s story and to see what they do for a living. You have all proven stereotypes wrong - as in "fitness freaks" only focus on this one thing and are completely selfish.

The jobs (current and past) and people’s interests really show how bodybuilding and fitness is a display of hard work and diligence - mostly traits that you all have in MULTIPLE areas of life. Plus, you all have a brain! Many of the professions and or stories shared just make me go "wow, HOW in the world do they have time for all this?!?!?! They do THAT too?!?!?"

On top of all this, people here are just amazingly genuine, supportive, and kind. Sometimes even the hottest girls have the kindest heart when you get a comment or message from them.

You all are wonderful and someone new amazes me every day! This sounds SO cliche but it is really so true.

little things: fiddled around on the BodyDome with arm exercises/resistance bands and balancing the ball….. and worked on my 24Tease routine for class tonight….

actual working out: 20 mins on elliptical (with hills; 200 cals) before my classes; 30 mins dancers workout with lunges and kicks focus tonight; 60 mins 24Tease class with last 15 minutes of specific bootie, thigh, and ab blaster moves.

water intake: still working on it tonight! Only got 4 water bottles in (typical arrowhead bottles).

food facts:

Totals: 1,318
cals
201
carbs
13
fat
101 protein
Your Daily Goal:
1200 - 1550
cals
135 - 252

30 - 136 protein

Damn the carbs - I used my BF’s protein powder…. I need to go back to buying my own with less carbs.

I think I found the secret…

Thursday, November 8th, 2007

People always want a secret pill. Or a secret trick to get to their destination faster. They want things to be easy… and a lot of people debate whether fitness is "easy" or "hard"….

Well, it CAN be easy… and there COULD BE a secret… but you will have to put in some hard work first to get going…

For me, I think it has come down to this - MOMENTUM.

Getting started.
Wearing exercise clothes (uncomfortable if you are not comfortable with your body).
Ordering healthy when you go out to eat (embarassing if you aren’t fit already).
Making healthy food choices time after time (easy to feel discouraged if you slip up and sink further and further down.)
Or always feeling like "after this dinner out I will start eating perfectly healthy again".
I have been much larger than I am now. And I have been a little smaller. I am getting back into the swing of things again and have been doing consistently well (in my perfectionist mind) for 3 or so weeks.

Even after I reached my goals, I worked hard to maintain it. BUT, choices happen and I slipped back a little over the summer. Sure I still teach and stuff but I am not eating like I used to or working out myself with the same intensity I was before.

In my frustrated times I wondered "WHY is this harder now than it was before?? Man, I remember being on a ROLL losing weight and toning up. Sometimes so much and so quickly that I felt guilty like THIS ISN"T HARD ENOUGH  when 44 lbs slipped off my frame!"

My discovery is essentially this -

When you are "winning" you feel good and it’s easy! EAsy to keep going! EAsy to make another ‘great’ decision that just paid off for you.

EAsy to tell others what to do to accomplish their goals. Much easier to see from this perspective. Much more appealing to be in the "helper/coach" seat than the person on the low end needing help.

It’s hard to get up and get started (for me anyway). Making the decision that THIS MEAL will be the one where you’ll go back to egg whites, spinach, tuna, fresh fruit (not all together) is kind of difficult!

But things compound. We know this in a negative sense - one lie turns into another, which turns into a bigger mess, etc. The opposite HAS to be true.

Think about all those annoying people (maybe you are one, maybe we have all been one at some point) making the BEST and AMAZING food, sleep, workout, and self care decisions all day, every day, 24/7. They kind of piss you off because they seem so perfect and have it all together. But I think it’s because everything is BUILDABLE. When you are doing great, you want to keep doing great - and that motivates you. You feel good, you are winning, you just keep going. You would be a fool to stop when you’re having so much success.

So now that I have this momentum and [finally] figured this out, I can’t slow down or stop. I have to use that momentum and disregard things that got in my way before. Without this conscious and deliberate effort, I will be suckiing again when it’s time to go back to spin class after 3 months off. And, man, that SUCKS!!!

Keep up your positive MOMENTUM everybody!
