How long to exit your system?

Monday, April 23rd, 2007

OK so if you have ever wondered how long it takes alcohol to get out of your system OR you think it happens quick, think again. I ate a garlic clove yesterday and my BF says I STILL STINK! Whoops. I haven’t had garlic since after Christmas and was overly craving it. He says in his next life he is going to pick a girlfriend who isn’t obsessed with whole garlic cloves. It’s not like I do it often, geez! Basically this stuff is seeping out of my pores for over 24 hours.

Tonight I got a nice surprise. Apparently there was a mistake about which week I needed a sub at the gym for my class….. so I got there and had a sub! So I took her class which was fun. I thought about joining my BF to lift but that didn’t seem like the nice thing to do.

I can’t wait to try my new ab workouts from the new Oxygen (Jamie Eason on the cover) and Muscle and Fitness "hers". Between the two ab workouts, there are enough I haven’t done to make a new ab series.

In one of those mags there was an interesting factoid…. The #1 reason for subway stops/delays in New York is from fainting dieters.

This week I am also changing up 2 of my hard elliptical/running/cardio days with slower walking up insane hills for a long long time. Still hitting cardio hard through running (still learning but getting better!), spin, and kickboxing. :-)

Updates… Unilateral training… rejection… pilates

Sunday, April 22nd, 2007

Perhaps I could maintain this blog as more than just a MONTHLY blog, eh? no?

I have been doing well and love talking with new and continuous friends on BodySpace. It is absolutely so encouraging to see everyone’s journey. People really surprise the heck out of you sometimes! People who look like they are on top of the world and are so damn lucky have had really hard struggles and have so much depth to their character. Everyone is a "real person" and so nice… so encouraging. Even if our goals aren’t exactly the same, I get so thrilled hearing about and seeing the progress  that each person is striving toward. Now that it is apparently competition season, it’s very cool to see the pictures, hear about last minute prep, and see how the event went.

In Muscle & Fitness "Hers" (May / June) I read about unilateral training and have been doing that a whole two days. :-) I like the concept and it’s a new way to challenge myself. Basicallly you do regular exercises and every other one you do a one side of your body exercise to isolate and challenge each side individually.

So I did the dance audition thing and it didn’t turn out the way I was hoping. I can’t help but be bummed because I’ve been told (and believe) that I am really perfect for it, but things happen for a reason …. so I got one night to eat what I wanted and then go to sleep. :-)   I had planned on eating garlic pizza but was too starving by the time the audition ended so had to stop by red robin. I won’t say what I had so I don’t tempt/piss people off but it wasn’t THAT bad, but definitely out of my ordinary. I didn’t eat the bun… and I had an alcoholic drink. that night I had sugar free, low cal ice cream and SLEPT. Bleh. But I felt like I deserved a little F-it time after all that.

Rejection keeps ya humble and it’s a constant reminder that our worth is not determined by either the highs or the lows in our "accomplishments" list. But still hard when you work so hard to prepare for something and really want it. I don’t have a lot of time for extra things in my life but had defintely prioritized this - even above my work/business at times - so just kinda ARGH! After today I’m over it.

And I’ve been starting back up on pilates again which is really good. As long as I don’t replace my existing cardio and strength training. I liked the results when I did pilates before and need that again. I just have to keep doing the exercises even when the lady talks for like a minute or so to sloooooooooooowly say "Ok……… and now………….. we are going to lay…………… down on our back……………. and do kicks………" OKAY LADY SPIT IT OUT!!! WE NEED TO KEEP MOVING. So I end up doing double of all the exercises because I keep going as she intros the next thing. What a waste of time. I think there should be a "newbie" and "regular" segment on each workout DVD. Just my 2 cents. Because after you "get it" you don’t need the slow talking and re-explaining. Tell me the form stuff while we’re doing it as reminders, yes, but let’s minimize the wasted time inbetween.

I also love when there is a quickie video called "20 minute workout" (winsor pilates) or "18 min workout" (tae bo) but they are really longer than that (like 26 and 28 mins). Not a huge deal, just funny to me.

Well I hope everyone is doing great!
