Working Out Without a Partner - Not a Crisis

June 27, 2008

I’ve been bodybuilding for the past 10 years and one thing I’ve learned (in my experience) is you can make great results without having a partner to cheer you on.  You really have to be your own cheering section - self motiviation.  Unless you are working out with someone who is working at the same routine/schedule you are and is at the same level of strength you are, I believe it’s a waste of your workout time, ie., switching plates, pins, etc.  And that’s not to mention if your partner is not disciplined enough to understand that gym time is work time, not time for socialization.  I see that so often in my gym where guys will do a set and sit around discussing it or politics for several minutes.

I am not against partners.  If I had someone who was on my level, doing the same scheduled and was entirely focused on working out, period……..then I’d gladly workout with one.  I haven’t found that person yet.
