New workout routine

Thursday, April 24th, 2008

Hey everyone! I don’t know who actually reads this, but I’ll keep doing it for my own benefit..haha! :)
So I’ve changed my workout routine with the help of my Personal Trainer, Jason, & my new buddy Chris@UGA! Instead of having 2 routines that I switch between constantly, now I have 4!! This way, I can do more than 1 machine/move for each muscle group, and I’m hitting each one only once per week (as opposed to twice like the old way).
The new split looks like this:

Mon: Back, Biceps, Abs + Cardio
Tues: Chest, Triceps, Abs + Cardio
Wed: Cardio only
Thurs: Shoulders, Traps, Abs + Cardio
Fri: Legs, Abs + Cardio (maybe)
Sat: Cardio only
Sun: Rest

I’m excited to have a new routine, since it gives me a big change just as I was starting to get bored :D

Check back for more of my BodyBlogs & progress….Happy Training! ;)

Becoming a morning person…

Wednesday, April 16th, 2008

So I did it again…I wasn’t sleeping well, so I decided to get up and go to the gym. This time I was even earlier (5:15am!)

PROS of working out in the morning:
-get it out of the way, nice positive start to the day
-gives me extra energy to get me through class all day
-not crowded
-prevents me from running all over town all day long & trying to squeeze in my workout in between lab experiments
-no more “I don’t have time” or “I’m too busy” excuses. I wasn’t bad about this anyway, but now there’s absolutely no possibility for it :)

CONS of working out in the morning:
-still haven’t figured out what to do about pre & post workout nutrition & supplements
-the snooze button is oh so tempting
-I tend to nap more in the afternoon

Well, I’ll work out the kinks & keep up my early AM working out as long as I can. So far, the pros out weigh the cons. Right before your very eyes…Puja is becoming a morning person! :D

Early Bird Workout

Monday, April 14th, 2008

I usually lift in the afternoon & do cardio either before breakfast or right after lifting. Today was the first time I did lifting & cardio first thing in the morning (5:30am!)

I’m usually not a morning person, but I’ve been having trouble sleeping, so I thought to myself: "Hey! I might as well get up & do something productive!" Soo…I went to the gym :)

I did my front groups today, and I felt really strong. I’m not sure if it’s because I was working out first thing in the morning, or what..but I definitely felt a difference. I was able to increase my weight on several machines/moves.

Also, I really enjoyed the atmosphere. Everyone there was dedicated and focused. There were no sorority girls socializing & everyone was really nice. Usually in the afternoons, there’s more foot traffic than people actually working out, so this was a nice change.

Although I did crash & take a nap after I came home from class, I think it’s due to the lack of sleep & not the early AM workout. I’m gonna try it again tomorrow & see how it goes. Check my Workout Tracker if you want details on what I did :) Toodles!

First Post!! :)

Saturday, April 12th, 2008

So…This is my first BodyBlog post. I’m fairly new to the bodybuilding scene. I did some "lifting" in high school, but I was doing too much cardio and not enough eating; therefore, I never saw any results. Seriously, I stayed exactly the same. As you may have read somewhere else on my page, I’ve never been athletic nor regularly active. My family emphasized academics and the arts faaar more than physical fitness. Luckily, I managed to maintain a decent physique, and I’m working to improve that!

I started personal training with a friend of mine that competes in January 2008. I saw some great improvements–mainly because I was really good about eating a squeaky clean diet. The month of March was a pretty rough patch for me, so I pretty much stopped dieting and exercising. Luckily, the "down n out" phase didn’t last long, and I’m back on it, more determined than ever!

This past week was my first time back in the gym regularly with improved diet (still not completely clean though). Hopefully I’ll be taking some updated progress pictures soon. Stay tuned for updates!
