Thinking about giving up

This morning my hubby and I were on our way to the gym, and I told him I was going to give up on the idea of competing. I’m just beginning to doubt myself, and I’m not sure if I can do it. Tears were in my eyes as I told him this because I do want to compete, but I’m not sure I have what it takes. My weight has been fluctuating like crazy (and not in the right direction), and I although my diet has been clean most of the time I have been having occasional treats (chocolate or small piece of cake here and there). If I can’t even stick to clean, healthy diet 100% how will I survive on a competition diet?

My hubby doesn’t want me to give up because he knows how much I want this, but how can I go on thinking I will be able to compete when I’m not even losing a consistent 1lb per week? I have a lot of weight to lose period, and lately that has been feeling like a huge mountain. The thought of being able to get into contest shape seems so far out of reach for me right now. This saddens me because I want it so bad, but I suppose goals are meant to be realistic and attainable right? Maybe I should just focus on being healthy and cast my crazy dreams aside.

Maybe you should have your thyroid and other hormones checked…..dont give up! You have a deep desire within your heart and you will kill that if you give up on your dream! Please don’t give up…you’re too awesome! Its hard, but keep moving ahead and you’ll be even all the more happy when you step on that stage!

DON’T YOU DARE!! Uh uh uh… no way, no how are you giving up on your dreams! Don’t make me go there and kick your butt!!

Trying to eat clean 100% of the time is just completely unrealistic for most people (including people who compete!). You have to give yourself a little leeway in your eating or you are just setting yourself up for failure. Honestly, give yourself 1 meal a week to indulge in your favorite foods.

People who compete usually start 12 - 16 weeks out from the competititon and really dial in on their diets. It’s easier to eat super clean when you know it is only for a short time. 12 weeks is doable for most people. And I know several people who don’t start the 100% clean eating until closer to 8 weeks pre-comp. After the competition, most people start eating normally again… which should mean eating clean 80 - 90% of the time.

Seriously, don’t give up on your dreams. They are what motivates us and give us the drive to succeed. We all know you can do this. And I am behind you 100% of the way!! Feel free to send me a PM if you need emotional support or need to vent. I am always available!!

Now knock it off and get back to your dreams of competing… let’s go girl!!!

What the mind can concive the body can achive. Dont quit, nobody said it would be easy, or quick, or fast. One day at a time one pound at a time. Rember your goal and a quote i saw on here the other day "Nothing taste as good as being Physcal fit" . Bare down and suck it up. YOU CAN DO IT IF YOU WANT IT. Dont give up a dream even if it takes a life time to get there. : )

  4. RaynaBell Says:

Dont give up…I know it’s hard but you can do it! Stat consistent with your workouts…you have what it takes to win!

  5. cavscout19d Says:

If your dream is to compete then don’t give up on it. You will always regret it and ask yourself what if. Nothing that is worth it is easy. Set long and short term goals for yourself so you can have victories along the way to your ultimate goal. Hang in there you can do it.

to be honest i really think you’ve come a loooonnnggg way already.. ur halfway there. ur cup is half full and ur thinking about giving up already?? u should never give up on ur dreams. sky’s the limit. remember bodybuilding is a very very patient sport that demands discipline even in the darkest n deepest doubts of progress. even the best of bodybuilders today are in their late 30’s and mid 40’s! it takes time and persistence. if ur diets not working out, then fix it. if your workouts arent working, change up ur programs n work harder! surround yourself with workout buddies with the same goals or people who can really push you and motivate you. do whatever it takes cus thats what this sport demands from you. a strong will. the human mind is a very powerful thing cus if deep deep in yourself u really want this, and ur mind wills it, the body does it. there is no "try" or "do my best", it’s either you do it or you dont. so push yourself harder every day, find that motivation anywhere and everywhere. u can do it!

Don’t let the emotions make the decisons for your heart, you already know you want to and know you can, or you wouldn’t have come this far. Look at what you have accomplished thus far and realize that you are heading in the direction of your goal. Keep the end in mind and keep pressing forward.

  8. Making_A_Change Says:

There is nothing unrealistic about your goal–YOU set them. Don’t give up before you have even started. Take time to learn your body, learn how it responds to food. Focus on clean eating and your training and the rest will follow. As the people here have said–look at the big picture and what you have accomplished, you are heading in the right direction. If you really want it–you will make it happen.

Don’t let a closed door stop you from walking into the room. I say this because when I found out i had my heart condition, I wanted to go home and quit, but I didn’t and look what happened. I placed third in my first competition. It is very hard every day making sure I train within my limits, eat correctly, take my meds, etc. I believe in you. Your husband believes in you, and many other BB’s believe in you, too. You are stronger than you think. Take each day one day at a time. I can’t wait to see your pictures on the competition stage! Good luck!!

  10. Darkone8921 Says:

I can’t say anything new to you. I know that you know how wrong this decision is. I know that you know how much you’ll hate yourself for it.
There’s not a competitor anywhere that hasn’t been where you are at sista. You wanna know the difference between them and you? Nothing.
Get your thyroid and other things checked out first. Then hit it like your life depends on the end result. You have what it takes and you know this already.
    Give it hell!!!!!!!!

  11. gracefullotus Says:

I really believe that you have what it takes to compete. Seriously. And, yeah, it’s important to be realistic and recognise what you can achieve in a given amount of time. But that doesn’t mean that you have to go to the other extreme and give up on your dream.

Babe, f you don’t quite reach your goal by next year, that doesn’t mean that you’re not on your way to reaching your goal maybe the year after, right? It’s a long process, it takes time. Some people on here lose weight so quickly, others do the work but struggle - it could be your biochemistry. Get yourself checked out.

Please don’t let your emotions in this moment in time give up on yourself. Cos we’re not giving up on you =)

I know i didn’t just read what i thought I read. Nah, i must have had too much creatine or something. ;)

Listen, self doubt is nothing more than fear in disguise. You can do anything that you put your mind too. Thats the key term. Its not about what you THINK you can do, its all about what you BELIEVE you can do. You’ve got to believe in it, you’ve got to feel it. visualize what you want to look like 2 months from now, 6 months from now, and so on. Keep that image in your mind during cardio, hold onto that image in your mind when pushing that last rep. If its not cheat day, and you feel like reaching for something that might deter you from your goal, focus back on that image of you standing on stage accepting your trophy. Baby girl believe me when i tell you that you CAN do this!! Its right there for you. What will you gain by giving up? Aboslutely nothing. What will you gain by following it through, absolutely EVERYTHING.

So you hold onto that dream and make it a reality. Never give up, never stop trying, this right here that you are reaching for is yours….but only if you want it.
    Peace!

Britishlady, you are looking to far ahead of yourself and it is starting to overwhelm you. Take it one day at a time, from sun up to sun down. Before you know it you will have consistency. Just commit yourself to a daily
plan and follow it, and when you mess up forget about. Don’t look to far ahead.

When you need motivation look at other profiles of women who have done what you are trying to do.

Always remember, the longest journey in the world begins with the first step. One step at a time. You can do it but it is not going to happen over night, and if it was easy everyone would be fit.

  14. mrinkysplaytoy Says:

Wow. Look at all this fabulous support! One day at a time girl and stop beating yourself up so bad. I know how having high expectations and little results can bring you down - I go thru it too! But seriously, you cannot do this to yourself. Remember there are long term and short term goals. Make little reasonable goals each week and focus on making those with the long term goal of competing. You got this and look at all of us behind you! Don’t be so hard on yourself, remember your fabulous bad-ass, butt-kicking self, and get right back at it!

  15. xnewsome Says:

Porsha…Goals do not have to be realistic or attainable! That’s what I"ve been trying to deal with myself. Set that lofty goal and don’t stop till you get there! You may not compete in 2010, 2011 or 2012 BUT if you step on stage in 2020….guess what…..YOU’VE REACHED YOUR GOAL!! I have planned to compete for a couple of years now, I’ve missed those deadlines, but I’m still on the path to my goal!
What I don’t want you to do is lower your standards so that you can reach a goal! That’s not it, that ain’t happenin! GO BIG OR GO HOME. Failure is not when you don’t reach a goal, it’s when you quit trying! A winner may fall 100 times, but get’s back up 101!

  16. Lelantos Says:

ABSOLUTELY FREAKIN’ NOT!!! I know you are not even thinking about giving up!!! You have come to far and giving up so much to live this kind of lifestyle. No way!! Yeah, it’s not easy. Yeah, it’s hard to get the nutrition in check. But this is what it takes to get to your goal. You don’t seem to be a person that is lazy and likes to give up. Aside from your husband, this lifestyle is another marriage that just like any other, you have to work at it; then it gets easier. Keep your head up and march on. Think of how proud your people and all of us on this website, ESPECIALLY YOU, will be when you get thru this and accomplish your goal. Never give up! Always think of down the line and imagine the relief you will have after you go thru this. Cheat! Go ahead, but never lose sight of your goal. Best of luck

  17. Fiya Says:

Don’t you dare give up!!! You set your goal. So you make a promise to yourself. This is the time to think about yourself and maybe set yourself a deadline about your special goal. And think about alternative to reach it!
