Trying to do the diet with the Dining Facility
February 24, 2008For any soldier who is deployed and trying to eat "clean",the chow hall can be like a brick wall. We dont have our own kitchens to prepare our meals and no local grocery store to go select the foods we want to eat on our diets,be it to lose fat or gain muscle mass. now to gain the weight, its not too bad, there are all kinds of food to chose from and KBR doesnt mind hooking you up if you give them a friendly hello and treat them with some respect. Some camps have a PX, some dont. the px usually has a few protein shakes to chose from and a small section of supplements with things like fat burners, amino acids and of course, the larest greatest "muscle building breakthru",that "joe" will spend that hard earned money on in hopes of that ultimate muscle gain while deployed 12 to 15 months. For those trying to do a strict diet or perhaps doing a contest diet for a local camp show, theres a wall that can be frustrating. We have only a handful,at best,of options that meet the diet needs. I bet i have oatmeal, salad and vegetables as my carbs, every single day. Protein? Pull the skin of whatever chicken they serve, loads of tunafish that has god knows how much fatty mayo in it, i dont even want to know. Its tiring eating the same stuff, day in and day out,but to get the bodyfat down while deployed, thats pretty much what you have to do. no fancy low carb recipes or low sodium, artificial sweetners in the food here folks. I drink almost 2 gallons of water a day, just to get all that sodium out of my system. Hats off to anyone who is maintaining low bodyfat while deployed, its a hard job during normal life but insane at times while deployed, dealing with long, stressful hours and sometimes unpredictable training schedules.
