I’m finally back in Germany.  But it seems like I’ll only be here for a little while.  I will be at Fort Campbell in June, with a short stop at Ft. Lee beforehand.  While I’ll miss Germany (wish I could stay a little longer than April) but I am looking forward to to this move.  My biggest shortcoming right now is diet.  While my lifting has moved forward, I am a little stuck and getting past some of limitations of dieting right, ie: knowledge, timing, time, money, and space, though I’m more short on time and space than money and knowledge.  But for now, I’m taking things in stride and trying to find my own footing at making a diet work for me and won’t send me down the street to a fast food place wanting more.

Stealing a poem about sqatting

It was posted in Dan Decker’s Myspace site:

SQUATTIN’

Down the road, in a gym far away
A young man was heard to say,
No matter what I do, my legs won’t grow!
He tried leg extensions, leg curls, leg presses too.
Trying to cheat, these sissy workouts he’d do!
From the corner of the gym where the big guys train,
Through a cloud of chalk and the midst of pain,
Where the big iron rides high, and threaten lives,
Where the noise is made with big forty-fives,
A deep voice bellowed as he wrapped his knees,
A very big man with legs like trees,
Laughing as he snatched another plate from the stack,
Chalked his hands and monstrous back,
Said, “Boy, stop lying and don’t say you’ve forgotten!
Trouble with you is you ain’t been SQUATTIN!”

so–onto now

It’s been a while since I’ve posted anything of late.  Since my surgery back in February, everything has taken of slow, to fast, and now almost at a stop.  I took a break in working out back in late June, just to get through fast class (boy, the homework load they gave us).  I also re-enlisted for another 4 year (wish me luck on getting promoted) at the mass re-enlisting ceremony with General Petreaus on the 4ht, and after almost getting back into a regular routine, got sick again for the second time this deployment.  And its taken a lot out me and affected my PT test, failed the run portion, but did very well in the sit-up and push-ups.  With so much going, I figure it was best to push back my goals to the end of September instead of the end of August, especially with R&R coming up.  Believe, I don’t plan to rest on my laurels to I get back.  I plan to push just as hard while on leave as I do here, but will take  my time enjoy life back in the States while I’m there.

As of now, I’m just starting to feel better, but I’m not completely out of the woods yet.  And this hot, dry weather of this place and running in and out of air conditioning  does not seem to be helping much at all.  But with all of that aside, for it’s worth, I’m ready to hit the gym hard again.  But before I go, just want to thank all of you who have given me words of encouragement.

For the most part, I’m starting to see changes in my body, albeit small, mostly in the area of my traps and shoulder if anywhere.  But the biggest setback has been my supplement.  Unlike most people here, I’ve always had a problem with creatine, which I want get into deatails about, but suffice to say, it really upset my stomach.  Now I’m having problem with my protein and now that seems to be upsetting my stomach too.  So now, I’m kind of wondering, is it the protein that I’m currently taking or was the creatine, which I stopped a couple of weeks ago.

Post-op

Sunday, February 24th, 2008

Well, it’s been a few days since my operation, and it hurts worse than the first time I had a hernia repair.  But the medicine they’re giving me in kinda of helping me to bear the pain so hopefully getting around won’t be so bad.  But it will be a little while before they will let me back into the gym.  Yeah, I’m hating on those who are working out, but I know I will be back lifting with the best of them soon.

Well, for now, all my weightlifting is coming to an immediate halt.  I have to have surgery to repair an abdominal hernia and won’t be lifting any weights for a while.  I hope that don’t gain to much weight either.  The little messhall here at the hospital isn’t all that great.

Dieting on deployment

Sunday, January 20th, 2008

A question for you guys here in Iraq and Afghanistan—How are dealing with your diet while deployed over here.  I’d personally like to think I’m doing OK, but there still a lot of temptation to go for the bad stuff.  I probably should just stick to the salad bar, but I don’t like tomatoes and mushrooms, and some of the other stuff is drowned in mayonnaise or other stuff to touch.  They do have tuna, but I question the quality of the stuff the serve here..  So how are you handleling it?
