The important thing is that you DID start, regardless of the age (says the guy who started at age 43!). You and many others on this site have proven over and over that age is no barrier to lifting, fitness and overall wellbeing. Thanks for showing the rest of us what is possible.

I definitely get those feelings once in a while to. The one thing to keep in mind is that 99.99% of men your age won't do what you did. It might be annoying that you waited longer to start, but the important thing is that you did start and you have triumphed from it.

Great post. You continue to inspire me.

For me,health &amp; fitness are more important to quality of life than financial or career success. Material success will ring pretty hollow when I'm in my 70's &amp; 80's if I'm in poor health &amp; limited mobility.

Keep charging. :D

I hand out 10s like lollies, and freely admit it. As I commented in my own blog on this topic recently I feel that anyone who has been working at lifting/dieting/etc. and feels they have some progress, whether real or imagined and has the balls to post a pic to the world, I say they deserve the 10 for the effort, if nothing else. I try to think of the poor ectomorph sod who's been lifting his guts out for months for what is a maybe a meager gain for some, but for him it's a mountain that's been scaled. I'm gonna give him an "8" (or worse) because he's still way too lean? Not me. In my ratings I give a "10" for the rating and then put some sort of comment in and use a good/great/awesome/incredible sort of "scale" in what I write, or remark on an improvement from an earlier pic, or put in some encouragement. There are definitely two schools of thought on this and I respect both if they're applied honestly. You don't have to look at too many pix to see how some folks do their ratings and comments.

I may hand out tens like lollis, but I only do it to people who look incredible, without being too particular or judgemental.

I don't bother to comment on pics that are... are clearly before or early progress pics. But adding a friendly motivational comment is appropriate.

Personally feeling at a midpoint, I appreciate the positive feedback, but I know I still have a lot of work to do...

That is a tricky subject indeed, maybe it would help if the whole voting system was split into two sections vote on picture and vote on determination or dedication.. not quite sure how you would word the latter of the two but i think it is needed all the same, of course being able to vote on both at the same time to give an overall score or just one or the other? i agrea tho i think im one of the users who has got votes that are maybe not deserved as i am no body builder if anything i am rather skinny in amoungst this world.

just my 2 pence worth

I generally reserve giving out ratings to those with great physiques. I comment on blogs, or by sending a comment, to those who are beginning or need encouragement. I prefer the latter. Giving encouragement to those who are strugglng or looking for information is what I like about this site.

I guess I need to do some more research. In general - I absolutely agree with most of this - certainly the principle of steady growth vs extremes. As far as not being able to increase muscle fiber count - I am not sure I agree. Both brain and muscle cells can be increased. Cell/tissue type, age, and genetics certainly play factors! But I would not agree the absolute restriction - rather the capability to recover and grow like we once did. Just my 2 cents. Appreciate the post - makesme want to do more research!
