Meaningful Pic Rating
One of the first things we do on this website is to look at other member’s pics may it be for giving constructive criticism ,encouragement and support or words of admiration and not least self motivation. And we express them by making a comment(s)plus a number rating.
However there are differing views as to how we should go about doing it (rating). Some people would reserve a 10 only for perfect physiques while others would give a 9 or 10 to displaying members with less-than-ideal,and often grossly out of shape, physiques as a way to show encouragement and support. This has created the so-called double standard which annoys voters from both camps and probably bewilders a passer-by.Those who vote on the purely physical aspects say the other camp hands out 10s like lollies….and they have a point. But the other camp argues too what would happen to their psyche if many beginners were given 1,2 or 3 in spite of their initial determination to succeed and being brave enough to post a "before" pic.
Until this rather underdiscussed issue of pic rating is resolved doubts will remain as to the validity of the whole system.
WHAT DO YOU THINK ?

I generally reserve giving out ratings to those with great physiques. I comment on blogs, or by sending a comment, to those who are beginning or need encouragement. I prefer the latter. Giving encouragement to those who are strugglng or looking for information is what I like about this site.

That is a tricky subject indeed, maybe it would help if the whole voting system was split into two sections vote on picture and vote on determination or dedication.. not quite sure how you would word the latter of the two but i think it is needed all the same, of course being able to vote on both at the same time to give an overall score or just one or the other? i agrea tho i think im one of the users who has got votes that are maybe not deserved as i am no body builder if anything i am rather skinny in amoungst this world.

I may hand out tens like lollis, but I only do it to people who look incredible, without being too particular or judgemental.
I don’t bother to comment on pics that are… are clearly before or early progress pics. But adding a friendly motivational comment is appropriate.
Personally feeling at a midpoint, I appreciate the positive feedback, but I know I still have a lot of work to do…

maybe you could have a class of votes, like a vote list?
picture:
dedication:
goals:
presentation:
artistic merit:
i mean 1 vote doesnt cover anything really does it? you could be voting on there eyes or ears for all we know.
sorry about the spam couldn’t edit my own post!

I hand out 10s like lollies, and freely admit it. As I commented in my own blog on this topic recently I feel that anyone who has been working at lifting/dieting/etc. and feels they have some progress, whether real or imagined and has the balls to post a pic to the world, I say they deserve the 10 for the effort, if nothing else. I try to think of the poor ectomorph sod who’s been lifting his guts out for months for what is a maybe a meager gain for some, but for him it’s a mountain that’s been scaled. I’m gonna give him an "8" (or worse) because he’s still way too lean? Not me. In my ratings I give a "10" for the rating and then put some sort of comment in and use a good/great/awesome/incredible sort of "scale" in what I write, or remark on an improvement from an earlier pic, or put in some encouragement. There are definitely two schools of thought on this and I respect both if they’re applied honestly. You don’t have to look at too many pix to see how some folks do their ratings and comments.
