TRAINING PROGRAM: SEPTEMBER 28TH, 2009 - DECEMBER 21ST, 2009 - 12 WEEKS
I decided to follow a more structured routine as far as nutrition and exercise goes for the next 12 weeks. This is actually somewhat difficult for me because I have never been able to follow a particular diet or fitness routine for more than 3 days let alone 12 weeks. However, I’m considering entering my first figure competition in 2010 and the way I see it there is plenty of resources out there that will guide me towards my goals as far as diet and training, but, the biggest factor with success in competing is to just stick with it. So, that being said, I need to take that mental challenge and follow a more structured pattern of eating than I am used to and exclusive exercise routine for a specific period of time.
I’m going to follow the Phase 1 Fat Shredder outlined in the P90X Nutrition Plan. It’s designed to strengthen muscle and shed excess body fat. The nutritional portions are: 50% Protein, 30% Carbohydrates and 20% Fat. I already use fitday.com to track my eating but will start using it to monitor the macronutrients suggested for this particular plan.
As for exercise I am going to follow the P90X Doubles routine. I know I said I am going to practice following a specific routine but I absolutely can not stand Kenpo and when that work out comes in to play I am going to swap my own cardio instead. I just can’t stand Kenpo I don’t know what to tell you. It’s not that I find it difficult I just don’t get it and it frustrates me. As an alternative, I will do ½ hour of running, stairmaster, elliptical or cycling.
OK, this is what I’m doing from now until pretty much year end. This will be difficult for me as I am used to eating a lot more carbs and performing a lot more cardio. It’s not so much physical as it will be a mental challenge for me. I’m sure I will get in fantastic shape, but the real reward for me will be the success of following a plan and seeing it through until the end.

Sarah, you are awesome! Which is why I think you can stick to and follow what you plan just fine. Quit doubting yourself and "just do it" :D You got this no problem. Keep positive and remind yourself you CAN do it!

That’s great! I wish you success. :) Two more months and I’m going to switch to P90X also to get me through the winter (the garage is going to be too cold for lifting, I think).

Smart to switch out what you won’t enjoy with things you will. Much easier to stick to it, methinks!
Now you have to put at least weekly blogs for us letting us know how well you’ve been staying on track. If you feel accountable, you’ll stick to it much better!
Good fortune on it, you’ve kicked so much butt already, it’ll be neat seeing you take it to the next level. :)

Funny you mentioned you didn’t like Kenpo…I had the same problem with the Yoga workout. It was just too boring, slow and not to mention long. I substituted Core Synergistics and never looked back. I completed my first round back in April of 08. It’s amazing how it has taken off in the last year. Good Luck…You’ll see me in your BodyGroup!

Congratulations on your success! You should be very proud of yourself. I did P90X last year before my wedding and LOVED it! Its funny you dont like the Kenpo X, that was my favorite day, but I have a Karate background. I personally struggled with the extreme Yoga of all days. I am also hoping to compete in my first FIgure Competition in 2010 so good luck, and I know you can do it!

Sarah congrats! I’m right there with ya. I recently lost almost 100 pounds over the past year and just competed and completed an Olympic triathlon in June. What a great sense of accomplishment. I too am thinking about a figure competition and just started my 12 week MENTAL journey and that’s exactly what it has to be. I just ordered the Get Insanity workout program and it is INSANE but I feel great when I’m done. A good source to turn to is also Beverly International. They have a great FREE quarterly newsletter that covers preparations for competitions and tips. There products are great. Good luck on your journey.
