Sweat
Today, I had another intense, sweaty workout and it got me thinking about something. So here it goes…..
When I was growing up in Arizona, I was always whining "Mommy, I’m sweaty," hoping my declaration would cause her to fix the unfavorable situation. I absolutely hated to sweat then. I remember thinking it was so sticky and gross. Despite my disdain for it, however, sweating was pretty much a daily reality and I had to "live with it." In the past few years, my feelings about sweat have changed. In fact, drenching my sports bra and hair with sweat during a workout brings me some sort of satisfaction these days although I still do think its disgusting when I end up touching or smelling someone else’s sweat. The truth is I think that I gauge the effort and value of my workouts by how much I sweat during them. I’m proud of this symbol of my hard work. I’m no longer embarassed or irritated by it. That being said, I’m still more than happy to shower and get rid of it when I’m finished working out.

Well now, that provided a very interesting visual..thank you! And I would suppose that the level of sweat produced might be one gauge of efficacy during and after a workout. My gauge has always been: first, lactic acid buildup in target muscle during the workout and then, degree of soreness in target muscle over the subsequent next two days.

I feel you on the sweat gauge. I sometimes use is for when im going cardio and not so much lifting. If there is a pool under the spin bike … then it was a good spin. Funny thing is people look at you like you are crazy when you just dripping wet like you fell into a pool. I mean you are in a gym , what do they expect, you’re just a lil more intense than they are ..lol… Like bodyauditor said… during lifting its the lactic acid , and after its the soarness. Which reminds me… I havnt felt that soarness in a while. I must fix that!!!

Cardio = sweat; If it dont, I did not work it hard enough. I want to wring my bra out when its over. When I do, I know I put forth full effort, burned some calories, and had a great workout.

Not to mention… The more you sweat.. and the more nasty you are after a workout… it makes the shower feel just that much better!

Oh yeah…I love to sweat. It makes me feel as though I am accomplishing my goal and working hard. If I don’t sweat up to my standards, it always makes me push harder. The shower does feel wonderful afterwards!!
