Cardio After my workout

September 20, 2007

Since May I have been doing the opposite of what everyone was telling me and doing my cardio before  my workout, but I think it was good benefit to me.  Sure I have not had perfect muscle growth and mostly have lost weight but this really helped me build muscle stamina in the gym.   Doing an hour of intense cardio and burning 900-1100 calories on avg and then going in and doing 3-4 hours of power/bodybuilding training my friends can’t even keep up with me in the gym and usually go home early.

So now I have switched gears as I am now at the point where I have a lot less to lose then in the beginning and the lbs are not melting away like they have been the past few months. I will be sticking mostly to my workout till the end of the year before I switch gears to concentrate on muscle growth, but for now I am warming up for 15 minutes, completing my workout then completing an hour of Cardio after my workout.  Hopefully the addition of swimming 2-3 times a week will help too.
Today was the first day I really tried this out and I can really feel the difference.  My legs were burning most of the way through my cardio.  I could really feel the last big of energy pushing myself to finish.  With no sugars and other build up to burn off I feel that this could be one way to spark a new weight loss.  I hope it works as I need to drop another 10-15 lbs to get to my target of at least 10% body fat.  If I achieve this it will be one of the best accomplishments I thought I never would have completed 30+% to 10% wow.

Swimming

September 13, 2007

Recently I also starting swimming laps during lunch at work.   I usually eat in the office to keep my intake regimented and after my lunch brake I do not have much to do aside from work so back to the gym I go.  I have not swam in years but it sure does feel great to do it.  It really does.  The loss of weight I am sure is a big part.

The hard part which is my favorite part is the lack of aquatic stamina.  I do not have the best swimming form and because of that I can only do half laps at a time.  So I just do that until I get to 20 laps, shower and return to work.  Really nice break from work.

This will help my athletic ability, build stamina, lung capacity and muscle fibers you can not get from just lifting weights.

If you have any tips on swimming comment away.  I would really like to be able to swim effortlessly with proper form.

Nautilus Tread Climber

September 13, 2007

I have recently started using the Nautilus Tread Climber and WOW is all I have to say.  I blew out my knee when I was a a teenager and ever since then it has held me back and caused lots of pain and hindered progress in any sport, but this machine which is like a tread mill but with each leg on an alternating level forces each leg to work separate and allows me to focus on the progress of both rather then my body adjusting to my in balance of muscle.  If you get a chance to try it out, it works great.  Start off with your hands on the bars to feel it out and when your ready take them off and charge it.  After a week and using it 4-5 times I can feel a difference in my legs, esp my weaker one.
