2009 Transformation for a Better Body-a Better Me
January 6, 2009It can feel good to see one self losing one to five pounds and seeing real change, real transformation. In the middle of 2008, I saw a flicker of change with my body and from that I was motivated and knew that I had to get serious with my workout. My visits to the gym weren’t as sporadic any more; in June 2008, I decided for good that I was going to be consistent with the physical and mental training; I put in five to six day a week and sometimes seven days of hard work. I set short goals for myself hoping to accomplish them; yes I did, and I was pleased. However, I noticed the progress I was making was minimal. Yes I was losing, but I wasn’t losing as much and I was hitting the weights pretty hard.
It was frustrating to see that the scale was motionless no matter how or when I got on it. The scale just wasn’t budging; I was fluctuating between 170-165. A friend of mine told me, “Maybe that is your ideal weight”. I mean come on, I am 5ft 5; being 165-170 is considered obese; no way 170/165 is ideal and I refused to accept that. To console myself, I started making excuses by saying that muscles are heavier than fat, so it must be why the scale is inert or sometimes I am heavier than I should be. Although I felt a bit discouraged with the workout, I pressed on; I frequented the gym six to seven times a week adding an extra 20 to 30 minutes of cardio.
One day, one of the trainers came to me and said, you have been working really hard; you are here every day, for at least 45 minutes; you should be losing more. And he asked me, how is your nutrition? I mean I know nutrition is important; I have read it here often enough–nutrition and exercise go hand in hand. One must eat small portions, five to six times a day, but it has been impossible for me to implement that kind of regimen within my schedule. So I told him, I do eat clean, but not as often as I should. He asked me, “Are you happy with what you see and where you are at? Am busting my ass here; obviously am not. So he said, the obvious reason is because you are not doing what you’re supposed to do. He continued on to say, your nutrition is as important as the time you put in at the gym. For quicker and efficient results, you need to re-evaluate what you are consuming. You must eat better and continue with your exercise; you must at least eat five times a day, more veggies, protein etc. He said to me at least try it for a month, and then you let me know the end result. - Well needless to say that I took his advice.
In the next month following the conversation we had, I made some adjustments. I tried to become more conscious of what I put in my body. I am eating more or less five to six times a day. I am consuming less alcoholic beverages. I am eating more veggies, protein and complex carb, mostly organic. I even got into the protein shake thinggy after my workout sessions. Within a month, I lost about 10 or so pounds. Finally, I broke from the rut I was in; no longer in the plateau zone.
Boy was I happy to see a real transformation. It is mandatory to make little adjustments here and there; whether it is with nutrition or the exercise routine to get the best results. My physique has transformed and it is still in the transformation phase. I am not where I want to be. I am not yet satisfied, but I am pleased with the little change thus far. A great transformation is in order-2009 is the year for me to complete this goal. 2009 transformation for a better body-a Better Me……..
