goal attained

June 24, 2007

I have found that there is nothing, nothing, like training for a triathlon.  I am competing in two this summer and training is kicking my butt.  Legs!  Holy cow, my legs.  Swimming (legs), biking (legs), running (forearms…jk…legs); weight training (you guessed it, legs)!    I ran a 5k today.  I ran a total time of 19:32.  What I am most proud about though is that my first 2miles were completed in 12:00, which is a goal that I set for myself when I first began posting here.  I am going to Steak and Shake for a reward.  I am still boxing, which is awesome.  I know there is this MMA fad about, but I find that boxing, and its strategy compared to choking or landing one good punch is much more satisfying.  Anyone really looking at pushing themselves should pick up a copy of triathlete magazine and get to it.  Stizzy-und

I’m Full!

May 29, 2007

Since cutting last month, I have done nothing but eat!  I have been putting down at least 3K calories a day and feel like my stomach has a beach ball inside it… it’s ok though, it’s all part of the plan.

Oh, I switched nitric oxides from NO2 Black to No-Xplode.  I am switching back.  NO2 Black is a bit more expensive (I don’t dose as recommended, though), but to me it gave me better pumps and vascs.  I can say that No-Xplode was better mentally, but it made me a little sick too.  To each his own, I suppose.

Happy Lifting.

a little extra protein

May 13, 2007

Well, happy Mother’s day to all you mommies.  Have some ice cream today to celebrate.

Well, today was a tough work out: 25 minute bike ride to the track; 4 400meter sprints; 2o minute bike ride to the gym; solid chest and ab workout; and  a 10 minute bike ride home.

In addition to the normal protein shake, I got a little extra when this super huge bug flew right down my throat while I was biking home.  This thing was huge and I felt it in my throat for a good period of time…awesome.

I was stunned - stunn stunna.

Good Shoes - Good News

May 5, 2007

Went for my first post-Vegas run today; 14 miles at just under an 8:30minute pace.

For any of you who have just started  running, have been thinking about running, or run, but don’t know what their doing, let me make one great suggestion: go to a running store and try on a half dozen different shoe brands.

Too many people wear well marketed running shoes as opposed to Etonics, Brooks, Asics, or Saucony’s.  There is a world of difference between these shoes and say your Foot Locker Nike.  ( I love Nike for most things, but not for running - not at all).

The cushion, support, weight, and design of the shoe will work medical wonders: Trust me.

Also, I suggest going to a running store as opposed to some store in the mall.  You are more likely to get good advice from people who work because they need your business.

One last piece of advice: ask if they have any of last year’s model in the back.  There are rarely large differences in shoe models (often just a new color or added reflector).  If you plan on running a lot this might save you ten dollars here and there, which you can use to buy some supplements  here on bb.com  :)

And here we go again…

May 4, 2007

I have returned from Vegas alive, but for all the wrong reasons.  I almost died there.  Not because I partied too much, but because, again, I caught the food poisoning!  I spent Friday night and Saturday night in bed as 3 of my best friends partied like it was 2999!  NOT FAIR!

Anyway, I am home now and in full training mode for my first triathlon in July, which will be followed shortly by my second and third.  I will report on this training later.  Suffice it to say for now, swimming is tough - tougher than boxing.

I weighed in today at 165 and am looking to get back to 175 soon.  I cut a lot for Vegas, then cut some more when I didn’t eat for three day due to the poisoning.  It is time to gain some strength back!

Check in soon…Stunned…it’s time to do 150 push-ups; don’t you think?

38…Sink or Swim

April 12, 2007

Well it turns out I am not a good swimmer.  I went for my first morning swim the other day and boy - was it hard!  I am going again tomorrow and hoping for much better results!

My bike arrives on Sunday.  I am so excited!  What I am looking foraward to the most is waking up at 5:00am on a really hot day, biking for an hour, go for an hour swim, go to work, then come home and hit the weights!  This is the summer of fit for me!  Yes.

Also, I am one month into boxing.  For any of you who have ever thought about boxing and just haven’t done - do it.  Trust me, you will love it.  I bought a speed and heavy bag now and hit it all the time.  It is a very addictive cardio workout.  I am setting my first match soon.  Here’s to a TKO!

37…Up in morning

April 9, 2007

Well, today I started my triathlon and marathon training.  I awoke this morning, put on my shoes, I-Pod, and oh yeah, my clothes and headed out the door for a 4 mile run.  That is how it begins.

Ok, around the middle of the day I realized that due to work (the type and the fact that I will be moving) it looks like the Chicago Marathon is out of the question.  Therefore, my training for it is over.  It consisted all of a 4 mile run.  However, this has also caused me to reconsider my triathlon schedule.  I am going to do a bunch of them this summer in all distances instead of just one - see, I’m not going to just give in.

I am going to start researching traithlons once this post is over and develop a new plan…boy, I am off to a rocking start.

Otherwise, I did have a great lift this eavning.  15 Minute bike; 8 Sets of: 1/4 mile sprints; 20 squats; 10 lunges per leg.  15 minute stair master.

Peace, Love, Shit and Stun

April 7, 2007

Great workout today:  8 mile run; 10 sets of: 20 jumping jacks followed by 20 elastic resistance push-ups; 3 sets of: superset of 15, 10, 5 incline dumbell press; max push-ups (which at this point was not that many); max pull-ups; 10 wide grip pull-downs, 10 reverse grip pull-downs; 50 crunches.  Tan.

I am certainly starting to tighten up.  Also, I am really digging this NO2 Black.  If you are thinking of taking a new NO, give it a try - it’s worht the cost.

34…I love circuit workouts

April 3, 2007

I must confess, I have a love affair for circuit training.

Here was yesterday’s scheme:  Four sets of the following with as little time between sets as possible: 1/2 mile run; 30 light weight squats; 15 lunges per leg.

4 sets of the following:  max pull-ups; 10 leg extensions; 15 leg extensions; 10 wide-grip pull-downs; 10 reverse grip pull downs; 10 squats; 20 cable curls; max sit-ups in a minute.

I also tanned…I guess that is part of the workout regimine now.

The best thing about these circuits is that that my heart rate stays high thoughout the workout.  I sweat constantly, which is nice.

I start swimming on Friday…Yes!
