One of those weekends

Sunday, December 14th, 2008

I know you’ve had them, one of those days where one too many cheats slip into your life.  It’s been one of those weekends for me.  Oh. I start out good each day, workout, oatmeal or shredded wheat, egg whites. But by lunch it’s hotdog on wheat bun (at least it’s wheat).  Dinner, shells with garlic toast.  Where’s the discipline here?  I ended today by baking high protein and fiber banana nut muffins (apple sauce instead of oil, egg white instead of whole egg).  Whatever….. I ate 2 while they were hot.  They were good though.  Is here enough hours this week to work this garbage off…….

Christmas Time is Here!!

Thursday, December 11th, 2008

Got the green light to up my carbs to 4 a day for the rest of the year.  Timing is perfect since Christmas time is here.  Of course, I was cautioned to make them good carbs…..I will…..I’m being set up for depletlon or restrictive diet starting January.  I’m ready, I think.  Better be ready, hah?  Nothing but to do it.

Had our annual working Christmas dinner.  Actually aside from the stuffed mushrooms and Apple something-or-other, I did well with small portions of chicken, shrimp, salmon and a salad.   Thought I’d go over board but I really as not feeling it.

I did take the opportunity, when asked, to share with my peers my intention of competing this Sept 09.  Most of them have no clue what a figure competition is.  So my competing will bring something new on scene for them that they have not experienced.  It’s new to my family as well.  It really helps, when in you are sincere in your intentions to share a bit of what’s going on.  It makes you accountable when someone else has knowledge.  They are looking at you for progress and some are looking for you to share and help them as well.  This is nothing but a positive experience.

Had a back and chest work out yesterday.  I was a beast on the back sets.  I was a cub on the chest though.;0(  Gotta knock’em out.  Find the strength.

Oh by the way….Christmas time is special to me because I’ll be 47 on the 24th.  This year on my birthday, I am in the best shape I’ve been in since I was 20 and in the military.   Albeit, my boobs and butte were higher at 20, but my biceps are bigger now.

Back in the Game

Monday, December 1st, 2008

I am so back in the game.  I am still a little short of breathe but I did the 2 mile walk and a full ab workout. 5 egg whites w/ veggies and oatmeal, which is my regular meal after workout, was still a bit much to get down.  But I think later this evening, work night, I’ll feel better and rejuvinated.  I’ll be ready to hit the legs tomorrow. Admitly, I have to tone the weights down until I get my energy back but mentally, I’m ready.

Hope everyone made good Thanksgiving day decision and did not let the meal make the decision for you.  We still have Christmas and New Years to tough it through.

Accountability

Sunday, November 23rd, 2008

Once again, I had to revert back to what I know works.  I get confident and then become complacent.  I’ll eat clean and log it and I’ll do so good eating,  the logging slips and then some how cookies find their way home to me.  So bought a new journal and "The Butt Book" which is by the eat clean lady, Tosca Reno, (new books always give me a thrill).  It has some nutritional info in it as well.  Started journaling and down 2 pounds.  I tell you if you don’t want to write it, you won’t eat it.

A co-worker said this morning, "You know, old men don’t like skinny girls."  I told him I was doing this for me and I was not into "old men."   ;0)

Oh well …..going to hit the black top. Peace.

Christi

This is Christi.

Being fit, working the body and watching the nutrition can not only make you look younger.  It stalls aging on the inside.

I took my granddaughter to lunch today and the cashier thought she was mine. Well she is mine, once removed.    I am so far past birthing age.  I guess not by Hollywood’s standards, but by the rest of us normal people.  But I know I am adding years to my natural life by cutting the crap I’ve eatten and taking an hour or so a day to move or lift.  Training yesterday gave me a high and I ain’t ready to come down.

Emergencies

Wednesday, November 12th, 2008

It is very hard to handle meals during emergencies away from home.  I had to go the hospital during the early morning hours with a loved one.  I was awoken out of a dead sleep, so there, of course, is only thinking of the issue at hand.  I thought enough to say I have water in the car.  I ate, today, a muffin coffee and a banana, (meal one) and a protein bar and an apple (meal 2)  That was almost over a 24 hour period……yes I ended up finally driving through Checkers and I eat a burger and fries like it was my last meal.  I had to cancel my 3pm Training session and reschedule for Friday.  So no workout today.  No one to blame on any of this, except of course that drive thru.  But I say all this to say, due diligence during the training program and sticking to the nutritian can allow for the emergencies that pop up.  No one wants an emergency to occur but let’s say we stick to our programs and then we get a wedding invite, now an opportunity to go off as needed.  So tighten up the pantries and fridges.  An unofficial reason good or bad might occur that you’d have to go off.  It’s called LIFE.

I’m in Pain

Saturday, November 1st, 2008

I’m in pain…..last Wednesday’s, arms, chest and back workout pains are just fading and now I’m waddling around with Friday’s leg workout.  Why did I think a personal trainer was a good idea? (SMILE)  I needed the push. Weights got too heavy, I’d put them down.  I needed someone to say, "alittle bit more" or "hold it."  My cardio is more deliberate and with more purpose.  I try not to waste any valuable time.  I also will take advantage of the regular day off, which I was not doing in the past.  Grocery shopped this morning and stirred myself to fresher or frozen only.  I even put some things back that in the past I thought my be a good idea like light soup.  I’m trying to avoid filler foods and stick just with what I need.  This allows for that very occasional splurge.  Right now, I’m too excited to splurge or cheat.  I want to see results.

Personal Trainer

Wednesday, October 29th, 2008

Day one with a personal trainer and I can not raise my arms above my head…well alittle bit but gingerly.  It was good. Working with a trainer involves give and take for both parties.  I went in giving all I got and of course I’m getting proper training moves and information and the push I need to go to the next level.  This couple competes in muscle and figure competitions.  With that as my goal, they will steer and mold me towards that goal.

On nutritian, I was already doing good 5 meals a day.  One tip I got was, I typically take 4 meals to work, good protein meat and a carb or veggy.  I treat any meal interchangable on when I ate them.  So now I need to eat the rice or sweet potato earlier in the day and the veggies later in the day.  So I’ll stack them accordingly.  No complex carbs in the later half of the day.

Second, training, I’ll go to 2 cardios a day, at least try. We’ll see how that schedule goes.  I’m excited to see some real results.  Will share as I go along.

Pounds Away

Monday, October 20th, 2008

Okay, I’m back in the game.  Down 3 pounds this past week, streamlined the meals.  All is going well.  You know the most hated place on earth for women….the store dressing room.  Had to shop today for a dress for a dinner show.  Had to go to a smaller size, yea!  But that’s was less a surprise as what looked back at me in the mirror.  I am so much slimmer.  I do need to tighten up the thighs, very loose. But I am happy so far.

Back To What Works

Friday, October 17th, 2008

Okay, regardless of the training or cardio,  I am eatting no less then 5 meals a day, including protein shakes, I am not losing weight.  This is concerning me.  Admittedly to many cheat incidents, lately.  I only gained a pound but  I was on a good roll and I have alot still to go especially around the hips and thighs.  SO, back to what works, Weight Watchers.  I know the best thing a person can do is customize the things they learn to what works.  So, eating clean, protein and complex carbs in each meal, cut the damn bad foods AND monitor the meals on the points system.  I pulled all my books and info back out from the beginning of the year and journaling again the points and activities to get some progress here.  I have to find that balance between the portion, kinds of foods, good clean foods and workouts.  December will be here soon and I have not met my first goal of 50 lbs lost.  I am so close.  That goal met will push me into the next goals and levels of training.  I’m so focused, good or bad, on that number.
