Competition Mode

Wednesday, August 26th, 2009

Oh my friends must know I’m in competition mode.  I’m at a whole new level now.  Looking at all aspects of the package to go on stage, I colored my hair to take out the gray. Whoa!! Have not colored my head in years.  And then it was for a different look.  This was just a richer version of my color and to cover gray. Going to check out a natural hair show next month for style and care tips.

I am strongly considering the second catagory, C class (over 5′6") along with the Masters Over 40.  It ain’t cheap cause you have to pay for each catagory.  This whole thing ain’t cheap.  The suit, shoes, tan, makeup, nails, NPC card fee, catagory fees, I am getting the hotel room, tickets for out of town guests, all this on top of training and gym fees, supplements, all necessary things.  Now I see why people get sponsors.

But it is all so exciting.  It’s not like a pageant were a woman just looks cute and prances up there.  It is a sport and it’s hard work and daily commitment and at the end you present what you’ve worked so hard at.

Props to all the figure, fitness and bodybuilding women out there working hard and making the commitment and paving the way for others.

Peace

Whoap! Whoap! Pull Over………

BLOG 100………………..159……..I am officially in the 150’s.  I am my pre-pregancy weight from 19 years ago and in the single digit sizes.  I am lovin’ life right now.

The hard work on nutrition is really in play.  I hope to be down 9 more pounds in 7 weeks, cardio twice a day. I wrote out a strict workout schedule for the next 7 weeks.  I’m pumped and psyched.

Back and neck are still tender. Thank you all for your ideas on comfort.  I have been ginger with my activities but hard head….I ain’t stoppin’.  Gotta a goal on the horizon.

Have a blessed day everyone.  Peace.

Matter of Time

Monday, August 17th, 2009

I don’t have the typical female issues you young ladies have.  I have the old lady issues like ‘age’……My lower back is feeling the almost 48 years and I can barely walk.  I’ll have you all know it was from heel practice.  I walked around in my competition heels the other night and woke up sore.  I still did my cardio and did some things around the house.  Today I can not bend over.  That sucked when I dropped the cap to the water bottle on the floor. I picked it up with my toes.  I had to call my son home to feed the dog, (bowl on the floor).

I’m going to tough it out and go to work.  I save sick days for events like this.  I have been down and no walking by back pain, so I better go, hoping tomorrow won’t be one of those days.  My last back pain episode where I could not walk at all was so intense.  It was about 5 years ago and I cry today at the fear of being in that kind of pain again.

No workout or cardio today.  It is literally enough that I walk.  With that in mind though, diet will be ultra strict so that I consume what I going to burn.  I feel like a whimp even though I am a chronic back pain sufferer for 25 years.  My Pop just had back surgery last week and is flat on his back now.  I truly need to suck this up and scoot along.

Peace.

Intentional Planning

Saturday, August 15th, 2009

My son’s birthday was this week.  He did not want a cake.  Cool with me.  I did not want to celebrate with food. So, we all went to play Putt Putt Golf.  Sounds cheesy, but I have never done that.  We went in the afternoon, so hardly anyone was there.  This place has waterfalls and small ponds all around with bridges to cross over.  We played 18 holes, myself, my sons, my daughter-in-law and my granddaughter.  She was quickly bored by the golf thing and prefered to pick up rocks and sticks and everyone elses balls.  The kids then went go-cart racing.

Why do I blog about this?  The traditional birthday celebration for us is homebaked cake and dinner of choice, hang around the house watching a movie and gifts.  Milestone birthdays of course are marked with parties…..with food and drink depending the age.  We are always consuming something.

We each consumed a bottle of water after the 18 holes.  It was a beautiful day but it is Florida, it was still warm.

A lifestyle change means a lifestyle change everyday.  It means coming up with new traditions.

I am already rethinking Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Of course he did still get a gift. ;0)

Peace.

Cut The Cheese

Thursday, August 13th, 2009

Its official, I cut the cheese from my diet today for the next 8.5 weeks.  That’s my weakness, guys.  I love just a little cheese, even reduced fat, sprinkled in my copious amount of egg whites each morning.  I cut the grapefruit juice 2 months ago.  That was my other must have with my supplements.  I have settled for ½ of a grapefruit each morning.    So folks, it is very serious.  I hope I was not too late in making this adjustment, but this is my first go round and I am learn, literally along the way.

Typical Breakfast:  1 whole egg/ 6 egg whites, 2 cups of spinach sautéed down scramble in, a little hot sauce, ½ grapefruit and morning supplements, and, of course water.

Next meal is usually my first protein shake, 68g of protein and a tablespoon of peanut butter.  I’ll do this again as my last meal.

I count on frozen veggies, (fresh spinach), with my meat protein, convenience.  Right now as I type, its broccoli and cauliflower with steamed chicken I cooked this weekend.

I weight train out on my nights off.  Last night was legs and cardio.  My son challenges himself to push more and I follow suit.  He has been an excellent training partner.  I usually come up with the exercises we’ll do and he will set the weight amount.  There may be some exercises I go heavier then him but that’s because I have been doing it longer.  As a young man, he is catching up and passing on half the cases, soon to be all the cases but I will grow as well.  That’s a WIN-WIN.

I have family coming from out of state in October, so after party planning is underway on competition night. I am so excited.  It’s a race to try and be my best.  I hope to compete again in the future but even if I do not…WOW! I will meet a life time goal.

Peace

Family Affair

Wednesday, August 12th, 2009

First Blog for August.  I am so glad that my youngest son now has a body space and is making a commitment to change his eating and exercise (or lack there of ) style.  Now both of my sons are on here.  My oldest has dropped 25 lbs and we weight train regularly.  My youngest is now on board and has the most weight to lose.  He has not been under 200 lbs since he was 15.  He’s barely 5′6".  I am looking forward to him making changes but mostly to his excitement over the changes he will make.  There is nothing like being stronger, running faster.

Okay quick story…..My oldest son was in a Biggest Loser contest at work.  He lost the most weight by pound but lost to the next person who lost more by percentage.  His buddy was raggin on him that a girl beat him.  My son said, "Didn’t you just have annual training with my mom and she ran past you during the challenge."  SHUT DOWN!!!   Nice to be the positive side of the joke.

Peace
