Status of my pectoral injury

Wednesday, August 5th, 2009

Well I injured partially tore my pectoral back at the end of May.  Intially, I didn’t notice any significant visually cues that would indicate an injury.  After a little over two months of trying to heal, an indentation and blackness is visible at the site of the injury.  I’m still hurting, as it is has turned out to be a very difficult area to heal.  Judging from how the two months off went, I expect another 1-2 months of healing until I can rehab slowly back into exercise.  I’ve been massaging and stretching it, trying to minimize the scar tissue and get it to heal with as good of range of motion as possible.  I feel very confident that it will heal good, and cosmetically it isn’t terribly noticeable.  I’m guessing that with the proper recovery techniques, it will be very hard to distinguish that I had an injury without looking very close.

Right pectoral strain or tear?

Thursday, June 18th, 2009

There is definately a serious injury going on with my right pectoral muscle.  Originally I thought taking a month off would make things feel better, but that hasn’t been the case.  My pec is hurting even worse than it did when I first injured it.  I’ve been to the doctor’s and I’m having a rough time getting them seriously evaluate it.  There’s no bruising, but I do feel inconsistancy within the muscle.  Again it’s hard to pinpoint.  Hopefully it’ll heal with no deformaties and I can continue working out again.   The doctor told me it’s bad to hurt yourself through exercise, but to be honest, I didn’t even know I hurt it.  I just flexed chest during a workout and noticed there was pain.

During the time I haven’t trained, the diet has suffered tremendously.  It’s hard to maintain when you’re not working out at all.  I’ve already lost about 10 pounds in a month.  It’s kind of disheartening because that was about a solid year of consitant training and diet to get to the point I was at.  I was hoping to step it up, and get to 175 at the end of the year.  Oh well, just remaining positive.   I know I still have the future to look forward to.  Although it’s very dissapointing to not be able to do something that has become an integral part of my lifestyle, I know that at least I have the knowledge and work ethic to fall back on when I do get a chance to return.
