LOL! Agreed! I do think that it is important to take a break periodically when you are dieting (I hate that word because we're really making a lifestyle change here) but I think your body is probably saying: I need a break and I don't think it will hurt you. I have done that in the past and I feel it does a number of things that are well documented: first it helps to stoke your metabolism which can get depressed when you diet for an extended period of time. Second and perhaps more important is that it gives you an emotional/psychological break which may in fact be more important. So, just track your weight and see what happens. You may have discovered something you want in fact to do again at a later time.
Last comment: I think too often we create a mindset of all or nothing and I think it is healthier to strive for say 80 or 90% compliance and give ourselves permission to be human. I think this is healthier in the long term and allows us to view our choices more in that vein.
Here's to a terrific holiday season and new year!

Hey Karell - I have been in a similar spot myself for the last three weeks. The scale says I way the same - exactly the same: 233, but all the buds in the gym say things are continuing to change. I eat 6 meals a day - three of which are protein powder based [see my blog]. I do not do shakes -- I mix protein powder with plain non-fat yogurt or cottage cheese to make pudding instead. The thing you may want to think about is how frequently you may be eating - hopefully it is more than just three/four meals a day - and the times of day when you are eating them. The only thing that I generally have at night for "dinner" after 5:00 PM is a cup or two of cottage cheese with a scoop of protein powder/glutimine added. Just cutting out the usually heavy evening meal that my wife makes for the kids took lbs off me faster than any diet I have ever been on in my life! In fact, Anymore, I rarely eat anything my wife cooks. I am sure you have heard this before, but smaller, more frequent meals will put muscle on you and rid you of fat - not cutting back, counter intuitive, but true. In short, I think it may be what else you are eating that is causing the weight gain, probably not the protein powder drinks. Hope this helps. Brian

A reasonable rate is 1-2 lb/week and most people lose more like 1 lb/week or less. Don't go by what you see on TV or hear in the popular press. Best advice check with your physician. Also, when I was losing weight I didn't lose weight consistently some weeks I would lose nothing and other weeks 1 lb or 2 lb. So, best to weigh yourself bi-weekly. Also, you might think about using multiple measures of progress. I used %BF and measurements and I continue to use all three of these (body weight, %BF, and measurements) today.
