Hardest part is starting out …

It seems that the hardest part of anything at all, be it doing laundry, repairing a car (not that I’ve ever done it!) or embarking on a new fitness journey, is starting out. The time it takes to convince your heart to not give up on you, and to assure your lungs that this WILL get better, especially when they are burning and hating you, is no walk in the park. It’s usually the part I hate most, but have come to realize that it’s the part I have to embrace the most. Once you’re up and running, it’s really not that difficult to stay motivated. You’ve made friends with your heart and lungs, they’re now on board and fully engaged. The inches are flying off your waist, and it’s no longer a chore to down that protein drink before your morning coffee. So the beginning really requires more nurturing and patience than any other part of this journey.

It’s been three weeks now since I got my regimen from Ilona, and while everything is getting easier already, the cardio is a challenge. 2.5 hours per week is tough to squeeze in, especially when I’m working harder than ever and staying late in the office seems to come easier than leaving and heading to the gym. I have time for the hour of weight training I do, but then adding that extra half hour of cardio is the kicker. Kids are waiting for dinner, husband is texting me, wondering where I am, and work is piling up. Is this all worth it, I wonder?? Then, I clench my teeth and step on the treadmill and break into a job. Ten minutes later, as the sweat is pouring and the music is pounding, I know it is. I just have to keep remembering … the beginning is the hardest part of the journey!!

I agree with you on that one. Though I am a SAHM I find it hard to get a workout in. I have to put on my gym clothes first thing in the morning to motivate, remind me and to be ready to go when one of them goes down for a nap. We will do this and "me" time is totaly possible if we learn to let go.
