A few days ago I decided to enter my first run. It’s only a 5K but I am excited and nervous about it. I don’t run much so I need to be training hard these next few weeks. Today I was going to start my new workout routine which will consist of a lot more running and hitting my diet hard but none of that happened. I was driving back to my place when I got a horrible headache. Actually it was a migraine. I have been getting migraines for years now and the past few weeks I have been getting them a lot. I felt like throwing up so I pulled off the side of the road and waited for an hour at a walmart parking lot. I tried to eat but i felt like I couldn’t keep anything down. I finally got on the road and tried to drive the last hour back to my place. I finally made it and when I get there I went right to bed. I only planned to sleep 2-3 hours but it was 9 hours before I woke up. I missed class tonight. This has been the third week of class that I have missed in a row. These migraines have caused me to miss a lot of class and a lot of work outs. Migraines suck. I guess I am going to have to see a doctor about them pretty soon. Anybody else suffer from this?

I don’t blog much at all on here but I feel like I need to. I thought i was doing ok but I don’t think I have been doing good at all. I grew up a skinny kid and just wanted to gain some muscle. As I have been getting older I have been gaining weight. For a while I was happy because I was filling out a bit and my appetite was getting better. Now I feel like I am carrying spare tires around my lower belly. I feel like I am turning into my dad and brothers…that’s something I promised I would not do. I have been working out off and on for about 2 years now and I have been pretty serious since January. I have even had a few trainers to work with over this time frame. I recently took a couple weeks off and have just gotten back to things the other night. I looked in the mirror tonight and was awakened to a nightmare. I am not what I thought I was. I have been coming home sore as can be and I crave certain foods and for most of the time I don’t give in to my cravings but yet I look like I do. I am real disappointed and kinda depressed about the whole deal. I don’t know what to do. I feel encouraged yet no change has happened. I have more strength and more endurance yet my appearance makes me look so out of shape. I am at a loss of words and at a loss of ideas. I don’t wanna give up because I will end like I don’t want to for sure then. But at the same time I feel like that’s going to be my result no matter what I do. I am just really saddened at what I have become. Hopefully things will change soon.

I just wanted to write a post since I haven’t in a while. Since I have been in the gym for a while now I have noticed some annoying behaviors from some of the people in the gym. One of the things that I have noticed is people talking on the phone while "working out". I mean how can you really push yourself physically if your yapping away on the cell phone. Not only does it limit your physical ability but it makes you look stupid and it creates an annoyance to others in the gym. If it’s an important call then step outside to make or take the call or wait till you get home. The gym is not the place answer all of your voicemails. Another thing that I have noticed is people who get too much into their tv shows. You know how you can plug in some head phones and watch tv while on your cardio equipment, well, just be careful and be respectful to your surroundings. I was at the gym the other day when I heard this loud laughing. At first I had no idea what it was but after a while I realized where it was coming from. I guess the guy on the stepper machine was really enjoying his Seinfield or whatever it was that he was watching. He kept doing it and it become real annoying and it distracted me from my workout as I’m sure it did others as well. The other day I was working out and their was a perculiar creature there that I noticed. In fact, everyone noticed him and were pointing and making fun of him. He was trying to do boxing around the whole gym. I was trying to get on one of the chest machines but he was squating and punching around blocking the whole area off. Before that I was trying to do some pull ups but he had that blocked off too. Everywhere he went he carried this big gym bag and gallon container filled with some brown substance. It looked like urine to be honest but I am sure it was something else. The gym staff were pointing at him but they should have asked him to cool down. To me he was just in the way and an annoyance. These are just some of the more annoying annoyances that I have noticed recently in the gym. I have noticed some slimmer annoyances like how immature the high schoolers act in the late afternoons but I won’t get into that in the post. Hope you enjoyed the read. Drop by my profile and give it a look and don’t forget to keep Jesus in control of your body and life.

It has been a while since I have blogged so I thought I would post an update. I started lifting a very small amount for a couple months in the fall of 2008 at the college gym and that was a great learning experience for me. I decided to change schools so I was out of a trainer and a gym. I got pretty busy and stressed out between Thanksgiving and Christmas so I took that time off. I was going to start back around New Year’s and I did. I found this awesome gym that I joined a few weeks ago and I love it. I also got a new trainer and I am really enjoying him. He has me on a to gain size and strength. He also has me on a diet which requires me to eat 3000-3500 calories a day. I never measured my calories before so I started doing that and realized i was only getting about 1500 calories a day. No wonder I wasn’t gaining any muscle. Right now I am up to about 2500-3000 calories a day. That is not where I want to be but it is tons better than before. I will get to 3500 calories a day before too long. I am a newbie to the weights so my workouts right now seems intense. I am expecting to see some gains pretty soon. My goal for 2009 is to reach 170. I am about 155 as of November 2008 when I last weighed. The training staff at my new gym says one pound of muscle per month is a good amount to reach for. So, that’s about one 1.5 pounds of muscle to gain a month. That seems reachable to me. He has me on a 6 week system so I was thinking about taking progress pics every 6 weeks. As a reward I thought about getting a massage once every 6 weeks. What do you think about that? I lift 4 days a week (usually mon, tues, thurs, fri) and do abs 3 days a week (usually mon, wed, fri). Well, that’s about it for now. I could always use some suggestions and encouragement…so please send some of that my way.

Peace!

In 1992 my dad had a massive heart attack which was when I was in the first grade. My dad was dead for five mintes when one of the doctors told my mom that they lost him. At the same time another doctor gave my dad his third electric shock treatment and his heart came back to life. He also found out at this time that he had diabetes. He was given a second chance.

In 2007 my dad was scheduled to have his gallbladder removed. He went to the local ER and they "found" tons of stones. So they scheduled surgery for a couple days later. I got a call on the day of the surgery from a family member to tell me that I better jump on the next flight if I wanted to see my dad alive one more time.

During surgery the doctor "accidentally" cut his main artery and they tried to stop the bleeding by stitching his liver and colon. He was left to die while the doctors did nothing and told us nothing. My cousin who is a doctor had him flown out to Little Rock as soon as she found a willing doctor to take him as a patient.

His new doctor had to reconstruct his bial duct which was an operation that he never has preformed before. The new doctor also noticed that he had no stones in his gallbladder and he said his original diagnosis was probably just a stomach virus. My dad survived after 3 months in the ICU. His doctor also said that the operation is only temporary and he will need to have it redone in a few years or he will die. I honestly don’t think he can survive another operation.

I decided to stay with my dad for a few more months to take care of him while my mom went back to work. I learned alot and decided to go to college to become an Occupational Therapist.

Later on we discovered that his original doctor had his third eye operation only weeks before he operated on my father. You should really look into your surgeons history prior to having any simple surgery done. Gallbladder surgeries are done everyday and you are usually released after 1 or 2 days but in this case it almost cost my dad his life. He survived only by the grace of God. He will never be the same and all of his stomach organs will never fully recover.

One of the things that stuck in my mind was when his doctor told me and my mom that with him being overweight and being a heavy smoker that makes him a high risk for any operation. From my earliest memories I remember my dad sick. He has been sick all of my life. I don’t want to be like that for my kids.

I wish I could say that my dad learned his lesson but that is not the case. He is still smoking and I can’t do anything about. One good outcome is a couple months after he came home I took action and quit smoking for myself and decided to eat better and started working out. He knew what to do but he decided not to. I know what to do and I choose to do everything in my power to have the best body possible….one that is fit, in shape and healthy, one that will give me a long life with those that I care about.
