3 Weeks Without Exercise
Saturday, August 2nd, 2008For many of us, the thought of going three weeks without exercise sounds insane, almost impossible. Well I did it and I survived. I don’t know if I have gone that long without a workout since I began my athletic life! I began crunches in my bed after the births of my children and at least went for walks during illness. So my three weeks off was obviously by choice.
You may ask why I would do this. I felt it was a wise thing to do before I begin the challenge of earning my pro card in two more shows. Burnout and over training turns great athletes into mediocre ones. I have 11 weeks to prepare for my next show and it all begins tomorrow. I wanted to go into this well rested and ready.
I did learn two very important things during my time off. First, leading a sedentary life is not a life worth leading. And second, without your health you have nothing.
The side effects of being sedentary will keep me in the gym for the rest of my life - fatigue, bloating, irritability, weakness, and boredom. I can’t believe people go their entire lives with those same symptoms and never take action. Be thankful for your health and strive to be better, stronger, faster, and healthier. Your body will thank you!
