Memorial Weekend

Weekend is starting out good…and interesting.  My son came home from spending the night with a friend with 4 baby possums.  The mother was killed and they were in the pouch.  Zoos won’t take them because they are "wild" animals.  Might be an interesting weekend trying to feed them plus finding a place that will  take.

Just finished a undisciplined Sat morning workout, 15 minutes on heavy bag and speed bag then some benching and curls.  Took the weights to fatigue, not the best workout but still something.  Planning on some tennis later in the day.

Remember, this is Memorial weekend. 

Take a minute during your picnics and celebrating the start of summer to remember those that have fallen in service to our country.  Don’t worry about politics, just or unjust wars, or any other beliefs you may have, this weekend isn’t about that, it is about remembering someone that has died in the service of our country.

Training for the urbanathalon

I have a plan for the Mens Health Urbanathalon, tell me what you think. 

Once a week I will replace my Saturday morning runs with this.

2 miles at the track at the high school
Up and down the stadium steps 4 times. (approx 1 1/2 flight per time)
2 miles on the track.
Then twenty-five 30 lb dumb bell shoulder presses.
1 mile around the track
10 each arm, plank rows with the 30 lb dumb bells.
4 times stadium steps.

I"ll increase the effort till I can complete the above in one hour, then as the weeks go by begin repeating the process until the total run is 12 miles in length and the flights of stairs increase accordingly

I’ll mix this up, adding pull ups, bear crawls, crunches, bicep curls, etc. 

Anyone have input?

Urbanathalon

Just signed up for the Men’s Health Urbanathalon in Chicago on Oct. 17th.  I’m really exicted, I needed a new fitness goal and this looks like it will be a whole body fitness challenge, unlike a normal marathon that requires legs and cardio stamina.

I want to be more then a particapant, I want to actually compete,  so if anyone has ever done this or the one in NYC and can offer training advice I’d really appreciate it!

10 miles

Wednesday, May 6th, 2009

Had a great 10 mile  run this morning.  Ran with my nephew, he kept me at a great pace and we  finished in 76:16.  Great time.  I felt great afterwards, I needed a hard workout like this.

May Sucks

May 1st had to put my dog to sleep and yesterday something got in my chicken coop and killed all my chickens.

Had to put my dog down today.  She was 11 yr old boxer and she had a stroke.  :(
