Sunday was bad day for cardio…almost
Yesterday was one of those cold Ohio days that is just evil. The sun is shining bright, the birds are singing and flying around. It is just plain gorgeous out. But looks are deceiving, the temperature is way below what is comfortable to the average person like me. But I am determined to get my cardio in today and the best way is to get out into that sunshine. I put on an underarmour shirt, over top that an underarmour cold weather shirt and over top that an underarmour cold weather hoody, Addis running pants and a hat. Grab my bicycle that has been sitting in the dining room corner all winter and head outside. As I pedal down my driveway the wind bites through the pants, I know my legs will warm up once I get moving so I mentally shake off the cold and look forward to a nice ride in the sun.
Alas things are not going to work out for me today, as I come to the end of my drive I realize that both tires are flat!! Sitting unused since last Oct the tires have slowly deflated. I hop off the bike hoping I didn’t damage the rims or the inner tubes and push the bike back to the house. I run inside, dig around the hall closet till I find the tire pump. Ahhh this pump has been around since my son first learned to ride his bike. He was 5 when he learned, that puts the pump at about 11 years old. At 11 this thing is practically a family heirloom. I carry the trusty pump out and since they had never met, introduce it to my bike. I bought this bike last year when the gas prices got a little out of hand. I decided it would be smart to have a nice bike to commute to work on. I knew this was a nice one because the kickstand was not included and needed to be purchased separately. LOL
I unscrew the cap on the nozzle, hmmmm this isn’t right, it looks much thinner then the normal bike tire nozzles. I compare it to the adapter on the pump, not even close to a good fit. Two flat tires and no way to fill them up.
I hang my head and carry the bike back inside. Wipe the mud from the FLAT tires and park it back in the corner.
Disheartened I strip off all the layers, put on old sweats and head down to the basement. 15 minutes of jumping rope and my mood is lifted and my cardio is done….but…..it just wasn’t the same.
