Basketball is cardio…right?

Tuesday, January 23rd, 2007

Wish me luck…I’m going to play basketball with college kids! My b-ball skill is still there, but my lungs may leave me in a crumpled heap on the hardwood! If I live, I’ll report back in the morning!

Another day, another opportunity to sweat!

Tuesday, January 23rd, 2007

I had a great day yesterday.. I ran 2 miles, lifted, and went several rounds with the heavybag. I was also able to stcik to a nice clean menu throughout the day.

So far today I’ve done 30 mins on the elliptical, and I plan to go for a walk of at least 3 miles. This evening I’ll attempt to play b-ball with college kids (the kind of cardio I could do without flinching due to the competitve angle!) I will also do some more light lifting, not too much as I want to start off very easy due to some past back issues. I’ll report again tomorrow, if I live through today. HAHA.

When was someone going to tell me…running sucks!

Monday, January 22nd, 2007

Okay, so I’m fresh off of my first run. I somehow managed to choke out two hard earned miles, but it was MUCH harder than I thought it would be! No matter, I’ll be on the road again tomorrow for another 2 miles. (But I think I’ll continue to run past the graveyard, just for the sake of convenience should I drop dead.)

On track…now it’s time for cardio!

Monday, January 22nd, 2007

The diet is on track, I’ve lost 11lbs in 3 weeks without cardio, but now it’s time to start the hard work!

I’m off for my first run…if you don’t hear back from me soon call an ambulance! I’ll be running by a graveyard…just for convenience sake if I should happen to drop dead.

If I somehow make it through I plan on starting a light lifting routine today as well. If anyone has any suggestions, I’m all ears (and ass, and belly, etc…)

Added Pics to my BodySpace

Sunday, January 21st, 2007

So, in the past I have put myself on plenty of diets, and workout regiments…some I stuck to, with success, some I got bored and walked away from. One thing I have never, ever done in conjunction with any of my attempts to transform in the past is take pictures.

I pulled out the camera this morning, and once I figured out how to set the timer - a challenge in and of itself - I went about the task of taking pictures of my big fatty hide.

WHAT A WAKE-UP CALL!!!!!

I’ve never really cared what I looked like, as long as I could still perform on a football field, or a basketball court, something which has never left me, even in my worst conditioned state. (I’m fast for a fat guy!) However, after viewing these pictures I have another new motivation. I want to look good too! Why not?

Even though I never gave much thought to looking good, I never wanted to look BAD! And these pictures showed me just how bad it really is, and imagine, these pics were taken AFTER three weeks of weight loss…(approx 10-12 lbs)

Yikes!

I can handle being a big guy, even being overweight…but this has got to be borderline obese…that is something I will not accept.

Just the beginning…

Saturday, January 20th, 2007
I started on January 1st, eating very clean. Lots of veggies and chicken breast, approx 1200 cals/day. The only exercise I’ve done so far is walking a few miles several times a week. My first weigh-in was Monday, Jan 8th, and I lost 7 lbs. My next weigh-in will be Monday, January 22nd. I feel like I’ve lost at least 5-6 more lbs.

The only supplement I’m taking is Total EFA, Omega-3 Fatty Acids. I feel I can lose most of the weight without supplements, and try to avoid the stimulant weight loss products due to a heart condition. Once I get to my goal weight loss and start my €˜bulking phase’ I will use some supplements. I have no intention of becoming a true bodybuilder, but it would be nice to have a good physique, and if I see progress in the mirror I am just the type to get addicted to serious weight training. I have the frame to be quite large, and if I catch the bug of bodybuilding I believe I can be a nice specimen.

First things first:weight loss.

I will try to find a picture from a few months ago, but pics of me are few and far between. I’ll take some new ones and post them ASAP, after all, I’m already about 2 weeks into my program, so I’ve missed at least 10lbs and an inch off of my ample waistline already!
