“Just keep swimming”…

Friday, May 22nd, 2009

Okay, so for those of you who have kids or love kids movies, you know to what the title of this blog refers.  For those of you who don’t, it means, "no matter what, don’t give up".  I’ve had a big stuggle with losing weight and getting fit since January.  Mainly because my motivation and belief in myself was lacking.  However, something finally clicked about a month ago, and I decided it was time to move past the excuses, the doubt, the physical pain, and "just keep swimming".  One month ago today, I could barely power walk 2 miles without getting tired.  I couldn’t run for more than 30 seconds because I got severe knee pain in my right knee.  And I’m NOT a heavy girl - to look at me, you would think I’m fit.  Just goes to show you that what we look like on the outside has nothing to do with how healthy we are on the inside.

I’m proud to say that this morning, I completed a 3 mile run!  And no knee pain.  My endurance is getting back to where it was long ago, and my weight training has been strengthening my knee (along with the rest of me).  I admit I actually got a little misty-eyed, rounding the corner, passing my 2nd mile, and knowing that I could do at least one more.  To be honest, I was so pumped, I probably could have kept going, but 3 miles was a major success so I decided to stop and bask in it.  :)

So my thought of the day today is this - whatever it is that motivates you, keep it within your sights.  When you have the drive and the desire within you, you can achieve great things.  I’m living proof.

Enjoy your holiday weekend, everyone!

Biggest Loser…damn!

Tuesday, May 12th, 2009

So I just got done watching the season finale of The Biggest Loser.  Holy crap, those people are incredible!  For those of us who have never been 100 pounds plus overweight, it’s hard to fathom the amount of strength, motivation, dedication and willpower that it must have taken to reach their goals.  I feel like such a whiner because I didn’t feel like doing my workout this morning.  These people work out way harder than I do - I need to step it up!!!

Welcome!
