How I got started. Well I let myself go for the past 4 yrs when I returned from Iraq. I was a tooth pick and I missed my wife’s cooking and the fast food. I just ate everything and anything I could. Well I went from 155 lbs to 231 lbs within 4 years. Yikees! I started reading Body for life after a friend of mine told me that he was doing that challenge. I didn’t really put much into the body for life competition but I figured I did need to start working out. (It was a thought).
Well I got an office job and sit on my butt behind a computer 8 hours a day. So I decided to quit smoking in Oct 2005, and my appetite really picked up here. So about another 3 months passed by and I began filling like crap and would get winded when I walked to the mail box and what really got me is when I bent over to tie my shoes; I would have to stop bending over to take a break so I could breath.
So I decided to go to the gym at Ft Rucker, I couldn’t even bench press the Bar (I know, I know but I was not an athlete in school so at the age of 35 I had never really lifted any weight). I really didn’t know what I was doing in the weight room so usually I got on the treadmill and walked for 20 minutes messed around with the machines for about 10 minutes and went to the steam room for another 10 minutes and I was done. It would be around 430 in the afternoon and I always felt tired after the gym, I would catch my self always falling asleep on the 30 min drive home. I did this about 2-3 times a week for about 2.5 years.
In August 2008 when I turned 38 and my 13 year old son asked me to throw the baseball with him. And I always had an excuse that I was just to tired. My 13 year old son told me that I was always too tired to do anything with him, and he started hating sports and started refusing to play them. (Bold move on his part but it woke me up) All because I wasn’t participating enough with him, I wasn’t coaching his teams. Now that hit me in the heart.
I got to thinking about the body for life challenge. I researched it and researched it, and I read a profile on bodybuilding.com about a guy by the name of Charlie Poole. His transformation was just totally awesome. So I began reading more of the winner’s blogs on body for life. I also began reading blogs on bodybuilding.com. I was just blown away they all talked about eating 5-6 meals a day. At first I ate what I wanted but soon I figured out when to eat. But I got it under control on when to eat, just still need some help twicking the meals some. It gets hard to cook two different meals at night one for me and one for the family. I’m really bad about eating nothing but chicken and canned green beans.
I read the Lean Mass Diet and decided I might need some help with my current workout and diet. I emailed Derek and he said he could help me. I’m currently awaiting my new diet/routine from Derek to get me started in the right direction. I’m so excited.
