What I hate about mondays?

You know what I hate about mondays?  Its not the fact I’m going back to work, the weekend is over, or that I probably have a new pile of crazy issues to diffuse this week.

Nope, its the fact that monday is "International Bench Press Day".  Experienced guys and newbs the world over, descend upon gyms across the globe to do the one exercise that is a small test of upper body strength.  The damned flat bench press.  You’ll never see one open.  There will be lines of lifters waiting on the mythical bench press.  I work out at a 24 hr gym and go when the crowd has gone down and you know there are still throngs and throngs of lifters waiting on the awesome, super duper bench press.

I shake my head and usually always design my training programs where legs or back come before chest.  However, sometimes I forget about that rule, go in and "BAM, the chest masters are on all of the bench presses".  Hhhhmmm, I wonder if I can start the international standing military press day.  At least then more people will be able to lift their bodyweight over their heads which frankly is a good thing.

Oh well, I’ll soon know if the bench press will be the first thing I see when I get over there tomorrow.  Later.

Great post and you are not lying! Do we blame the NFL for making the Bench the sacred exercise it is? What if they did squats or deadlifts in the combines? I don’t know, but I’ve been waiting for guys to fall out of love with this exercise and it hasn’t happened yet.

I always do legs on Monday’s. Chest days are later in the week. Being that I work out Mon - Fri the weekends are my off days, Legs dont start to feel sore until Wednesday, so by Friday they are technically back to normal, get a good rest on the weekend, and back to it on Monday.

You’re funny Mike. It could be "IBPD" or planning your workout to account for CNS fatigue. I do an upper body/lower body split 2x/week. From personal experience, my upper body workout suffers if it follows a lower body day without a rest day in between. However, my leg workouts never suffer from following an upper body day. But I do appreciate your love for Military Presses.

Lol i love this post. And the funny thing is that I was just talkin about that the other day with a friend of mine, and jokingly saying that if you see someone doing chest on a tuesday, it’s safe to assume they probably missed chest day on monday. Lol.
