Today was the first day of shock week. The first shock week since I returned to the gym this year. Well, lets just say things didn’t go as planned.
My training partner got down on the bench, did his flyes with his normal weight and did bench press with his normal weight. Everything was fine. I got down on the bench, did my flyes with my normal weight and well, the weight that is considerable less than normal on my bench press is just … not going up. Its actually pretty damned difficult.
"Ok, that was a warm-up. Next time should be fine."
Boy was I in for a surprise. Other training partner goes, repeat the process of the previous partner. Previous partner goes. I go, with less than what was before. "WHAT THE HELL!?!?!?!" Drop that down to 135. Get 2. "WHAT THE HELL!?!?!? THIS ARM JUST WON’T MOVE!!!"
For fear of injury, not just to my body but my pride, I stopped before anything got worse. Of course I laughed about it for a good 15 minutes. Me and my training partners laughed and I got to be the butt of jokes for the rest of the night.
Stretched it out, hung up that exercise and went on with the rest of the workout. Which was pretty good by the way. Just that one fluke really got to me. My poundages didn’t have to go down on the other exercises either.
I know next time, I’m going to go through the warm-up ritual. I can’t have this happen again.
