Crap
Feeling quite crap because I have failed to follow through with my goals and ambitions.
Beginning of the year I set out and did really well by going to the gym every second day and I pretty much incorporated the gym into my daily routine. I did feel absolutely amazing and I think I made some progress. However, I normally fail to notice any changes but I think I made some progress. And I felt really well in terms of sleeping well, active, alert, mentally at peace.
Come April and Easter I went back home to my parents for a few days and I also pulled a muscle. This was the start of the down-fall. Later in the month I also got stuck in Sweden for about a week with my parents due to the Icelandic volcanoes. This meant loads of eating and enjoying food etc. And no exercise. Was sort of nice since I was also a bit 'tired' from going so much to the gym.
After getting back to London I haven't really got back into it again. Iris has gone to live in York and I have been busy. I've also felt fairly blue because of issues with buying our house and delays. It's really stressful to try and find houses. There has also been a fair amount of late nights.
Right now back at my parents house again to celebrate my mum's birthday. Loads of food and eating. I love food and it's incredibly hard to stay away from it. I somehow feel that I work so much and get home so late at night (normally after 8 pm and I leave for the office at 7.45 am) so very rarely time to cook. Hence, it's so amazing to eat well cooked food that tastes great. And I so love seeing my parents. Cooking when I'm in London is also such a pain since I'm now living in my in-laws house and Iris is away. Hence, food isn't a priority.
Writing this I can really feel what's my issue in a way. Anyone got any great ideas for how to stay in shape for a guy that works 9-10 hours per day and haven't got access to a kitchen? And has to commute about 2 hours every day... Don't think I would be a good example of a guy with a good work-life balance?!? Crap...
Anyway, I've now been away from the gym for two months and I've probably put on 3-4 kg - not great. And my back is hurting and my feet hurt when I walk. Not feeling so mentally at ease either. In short, I need to start getting back into it.
Think my issue is that I make the gym feel too much like a chore and that I need to make myself enjoy it. And I also get all these guilty feelings when I skip it. But if I ever where to get into it I need to make it a routine? But also an enjoyable one!
Anyone, I need to go back to the gym on Tuesday. Will go for a long walk or a run tomorrow to kick-start it. Will update later...
I saw some guy on this website who tried to be a trophy husband. I sort of like that idea...
Any thoughts on this entry are most welcome.
Being a failure would mean you give up the whole thing all together. The fact that you are planning to get back into it and have made plans for the walk and gym session means that you are still motivated to make it happen.
Rememebr what happened when we fell off our bicycles as kids? We got right back on and started riding -- again. Crap happens, and we have no control over it. What we do have control over is how we respond to the crap. Give up entirely or find a new system?
Somebody on this site told me that consistency and patience are the two keys to success and progress. While my workday is not as long as yours, I put my workout in my daily planner and be sure that only a real emergency will make me cancel it. I'll rescheudle it if I can. I now go to bed earlier to make sure I get the rest I need to help my progress.
It involves some sacrifice, and making it routine is important. I am giving up part of our U.S. Memorial Day holiday tomorrow to make sure I get to the gym and do a serious workout. And there will be some clean eating decisions that will have to be made.
Let me know how you're doing. We could probably help each other as we face the crap that makes it difficult to reach our goals.
Failure doesn't mean you are a failure, it just means you haven't succeeded yet. Remember that failure is an event, not a person.
You may have a fresh start any moment you choose, but this thing that we call “failure is not the falling down, but the staying down.
What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.
No matter who you are, no matter what you do, you absolutely, positively do have the power to change.
To succeed you need to find something to hold on to, something to motivate you, something to inspire you.
Yesterday is not yours to recover, but tomorrow is yours to win or to lose and though you can’t go back and make a brand new start, you can start from right now and make a brand new ending.
No matter what the obstacle or difficulty, you are strong enough to overcome it.
Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you have imagined.
You have'nt failed you just went back a bit .....now it's time to regroup and think out your priorities
If you want something really bad you WILL go out and get it !
You haven't failed! Step back and reconceptualize your goals. Set goals such that you will have "little victories" on the way to your ultimate goal or goals. Additionally, you should also develop some alternative types of workouts in the case that you can't go to the gym. Also take the time to assess and remove any barriers that might be hampering your progress. Most importantly ask yourself, "What have I learned?". I have some things under "Motivation and Organization" in my Bodyblog that might be of assistance. Let me know if I can be of further assistance! Take care and keep striving to meet your goals.
