I took a week off from working out because my shoulders were sore as hell, and I needed to see my doctor to see what other options do I have other than cortisone shots; plus, I don’t have a gym membership in Columbus anymore, and for the six days that I was there, I was snowed in due to a blizzard. My body definitely paid for it this week during Krav/KO Kickboxing class….but, i definitely welcomed it. I did weigh myself recently, and I don’t know what is goin on. I want to shed, but im not shedding at all…im stuck. I thought this class was going to reshock my body and let the pounds fall off…what should I do? Right now, I’m solely focused on cardio, and the various kinds that come with it. I’m still shooting to the goal of june 08…hopefully, it will still come full circle….will keep you posted..

Yesterday, I started Krav Maga, this one-hour intensive cardio kickboxing course here in Austin. I did it for a couple of reasons: first, to reshock my body in terms of the cardio; second, it’s been an interest of mine for some time; third, its out of the box. I figured if I added this to the regimen, keep my lifting game up right, and eat as clean as possible (which will be kicked up heavily once Lent starts…ill letting it ALL go haha), then I should be good. I do have a question for anyone out there reading this: when doing solely a cardio workout, would you recommend a protein shake afterward? Your thoughts…first weigh-in is this Fri…let’s see if something happens…stay tuned.

So, today began the new semester and the new start of my regimen. I was going back and forth on what I should do regarding my workout, and to some extent, I still am haha. I’ve reached a point where I want to drop more weight, yet convert it into muscle, and tighten it all up (if you read my previous blog, it will make sense as to what I mean by tightening it up after the weight loss). I thought about returning to the LL Platinum workout, starting at the gold workout and go from there. A lot of the "goals" that he stresses are thought that I want to achieve (nice v-taper, more mass, yet constantly burning fat to get lean, etc.) Like I said, I think I want to drop/convert 15-20. So we’ll see how it goes. I weighed myself today and I’m at 212. I’ll keep u posted…now let’s get it!

Yesterday marked a year where I made two important decisions in my life: First, I made the official decision to attend the University of Texas for graduate school, and second, I made the decision to get myself into shape. At some point, I will touch on the first decision, but in a nutshell, it has overall been a positive experience. Sure, we have our setbacks; yet, someone once told me that “a setback is a setup for a comeback.” Truly, this year has been full of comeback, always ending on good notes.

My purpose for this note is to focus more on the second decision. Let me preface it by saying that I do apologize for it sounding like an infomercial lol. So, rewind to a year ago when I made this decision to whip myself into shape. I didn’t do it for anyone but myself. I was terribly out of shape to the point where it just looked down right pathetic. For the first four months (up until my departure to move to Austin), I worked with a trainer, and while I did see “some” results, I didn’t see “the” results that I was wanting to see. Basically, my equation (working out + eating healthy) was completely off. Yea, I got stronger for what it was worth, yet I still wasn’t dropping weight like I wanted to. I’m not sure what happened once I moved here to Austin, but it finally clicked (maybe it was the heat, I dont know haha). Once I moved here, I immediately decided to kick it up in high gear and make it work. I changed up my diet while sticking to my workout regimen of excessive cardio (and some light lifting, not as much as I was lifting before the move) and the transformation began. I started to drop weight like it was nothing. I thought the scales were playing jokes on me, but clearly they were not. Every time I went to do a weigh-in, it was almost - something (with the exception of christmas break where I actually didnt gain or lose anything…still, better than + something). Yesterday evening, after I finished my workout, I had my final weigh-in, and I must say, I was pleased. So, what was it, you ask? Well, over the course of one year, 5/1/06 to 5/1/07, I have dropped a total weight of….82 pounds. I look back over the year and I must say, yes, it has been a journey, but a good one…I have dropped 11 inches off of my waist (44 to 33w, and I’ve gone from a 2X in shirts to a M/L. (yeah, some of you are already thinking….man, thats a lot of Polos you GOTTA let go lol)

So, what now? Well, the obvious, I will continue to do what i have been doing thus far to maintain a healthy lifestyle. I say all of this to say that it can be done. I humbly write this note as a testament to what God can do, because without Him, I would not have been able to get through this on the solo. I also thank everyone who knew of my “fitness quest” for their words of encouragement and always staying on me when I caught myself slippin (trust me, there were some times when I slipped; yet and still, I got back on track). Again, forgive me for sounding like an infomercial lol. I’m far from where I would want to be in the end…but it’s not a bad start…

Be well….
