Keto Rocks!

August 11, 2009

Hello gang! I am stoked on this beautiful morning. I started a keto diet (I can’t remember when so we will say July 16th) and I weighed in this morning at 309.8!  I started the diet at 318.  A year and a half ago, I was at 360.  I’m stoked about my new CKD diet. I think that it has really helped me lose the fat while preserving precious muscle.  I had an awesome leg workout yesterday, great pump, big weight, and now my legs are killing me! Good luck to everyone out there, let me know if you need any info on keto diets. I have a few books I can email you. Lift heavy, lift hard!

Ouachita Mountain Workout!

January 25, 2009

WOOOHOOO!  What a workout.  Take a 50 pound pack, strap it on, and head out into the great outdoors.  My buddy and I got a wild hair two weeks ago and decided to take up the hobby of backpacking.  Actually he wanted to just go camping, which I love, but I decided that the "camping" trip would turn into a backpacking trip through the beautiful Ouachita Mountains in Mena, Arkansas.  What was I thinking?  Holy moly was it intense.  Not alot of sight seeing, just a lot of huffing and puffing and trying not to fall off the side of the mountain.  We took off on the Ouachita Trail section three which is ten miles of the 224 mile trail and planned on meeting up with the Black Fork Mountain trail by the end of the day and camping out somewhere in the Black Fork Mountain Wilderness.  I studied the trails, topos, reviews and other backpacking websites to see if we could make the mileage that I had planned for us.  Lets just say, the topo trail map that I had was a little conservative when it described the trail elevation changes.  By mile 2.6, which took three hours to complete, we were beat.  Our legs were pumped, lungs on fire, and heart rate jacked.  I told my buddy the next flat spot we found we were going to make camp.  This was about 4:30 pm and we knew that sunset was around 5:30 and we were on the North East side of the mountain which would be darker sooner than the west side.  After chopping firewood, clearing out the campsite, pitching the tent and answer the call of nature, we were beat.  I fired up my MSR Pocket Rocket stove and cooked a nice dinner consisting of Lipton Garlic noodles and a package of tyson chicken.  I estimated the calories that we burned during the hike at around 1,000 per hour (i attained this estimate from a calorie calculator on-line) and saw that I was about 1500 calories short for the day.  So I scarfed down a hershey bar, some water and headed to bed at around 8 pm.  I was hurting, my legs killed me, feet and ankles were aching and I was thinking to myself, "I thought this would be easy…..who knew hiking could be so hard."  after two hours of blissful sleep i was awoken by TWO cramps in my quads.  I couldn’t stretch them out so I started rubbing them out and downing more water.  Finally about ten minutes later they let go.  I slept well for the next three hours but then was up and down all night fighting the shakes from the cold.  I wonder how many calories we burned sleeping that night shaking in the 25 degree weather.  Everytime I woke up that night I drank some water trying to rehydrate and you know what that brought on?  A trip out of my semi warm sleeping bag and into the cold night are to answer the call of nature.  The next morning I cooked up two packets of instant oatmeal, which was delicous, and we decided on the side of safety to return home to prevent further injury.  I noticed that my left ankle was very sore and I figured that I had a very slight strain due to the rocky terrain we covered the day before. We headed out and completed a total of seven miles for the trip.  We had a blast with many memories to keep up busy telling stories thru next Christmas, and I picked up a new hobby that not only lets me get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, but also gives me a great workout.  I can’t wait for my next trip.  Ya’ll stay safe and keep on keepin’ on.

Injured!

January 12, 2009

I re-injured my left knee last friday during my leg workout.  I think I tore my lateral meniscus.  Man does it hurt!  Ive been icing it and gimping around the house.  I really hope it gets better, im going to schedule a doctors visit today and see if im going to have to have surgery.  Any body know of any cardio routines that can be done with one leg?  I think im going to cut my rest down to 30 seconds from 90 seconds to up my cardio.  I probably wont be able to lift as heavy but will be able to still shed the fat.  I think im going to save up for a bike and start swimming again until I can do cardio again.  I have got to get more dedication in my diet.  It is just too easy for me to cheat.  I did get me a diet minder food journal and love it.  Ill start posting my daily intake.  I hope all is well with everyone.  Keep hittin it hard!

Yesterday’s Workout

January 11, 2007

Wooooo.  What a day! I started out with a light game of raquetball for about 30 minutes. Then stretched and went straight into deadlifts.  Holy Moly, I was huffin and puffin by the 3rd set.  380 for reps (10 per set) is killing me! I have got to get stronger!  Then on to the rest of my workout. There is just nothing like the BIG 3 lifts (Bench, Squat & Deads), Its like here is a bunch of weight, lift it. I LOVE IT
