didn’t run with his dad tonight cos he was in pain. He could hardly move his legs after last nights run and went to bed early. I went to the gym and ended up blatting out a 35 minute run on the machine. I ran 6.6kms (4.1miles). Running on the machine makes me think that i could lengthen my stride and handle the extra work while on the road…maybe I am being over confident. The inner city was crazy tonight as thousands of people have converged for a major international seven-a-side rugby tournament. I looked a right idiot walking home in my sweats while everyone was guzzling beer. Noone said "hey Rocky!" though…so thats good. It’s usually a great weekend, I attended last year but couldn’t get tickets this year.

with his dad tonight. He is 14 years old, weighs 90kgs and ran for 40 minutes nonstop. He hasn’t trained since June 2007(see previous blog entry). His heart rate was up in the 150-160 zone and I must admit I was impressed he made it. We did the harbour run and I said we would go at his pace - it wasn’t a race and he was not to get puffed out (he left his asthma inhaler at home!). My HR was averaging 120bpm so it was a nice slow jog for me, but I was proud of him for trying so hard. I think he wants to get slim for school and the girls. i said if he goes running at least 3 days a week he will be fine in no time. Heaps of fishermen out tonight casting into a calm sea… must be a night time fishermen convention this week or something.

quick 35 minute run tonight through the inner city tonight. I went straight after my bi and tri workout at the gym. It felt just right although on one of the short hills I really had to "pull the road toward me". When I ran during my high school days, I got to the stage where I felt agitated if I couldn’t go for my evening run. It was like I was addicted or something. Anyone experienced something similar..? it has happened to me yet.Maybe another month or so…

Missed training last night as my son came home from overseas. I managed to get out tonight though for a 50 minute slow jog around the harbour in the northerly wind. I got splashed by waves riding up against the seawall, it was a change in conditions I had not experienced this year. I usually avoid the harbour route when the wind is up. The run felt good, faster on the way back than on the way out…no aches and pains.

I ran for 40 mins around the bays tonight. I ran a steady pace over the twenty minutes out but I only ran up a 140 bpm heart rate at my usual check points…perhaps a measure of increased cardio-vascular efficiency developing. It was dead calm on the harbour yet again, with a big moon and a semi low tide. For some reason fishermen were out hiding any fish they caught. Maybe the light southerly wind is favourable. I’ll ask next time. Police were out in force running a check point for drunk drivers…good on them too. Hope I can do an hour run tomorrow. My son gets back from overseas and we all might get a bit over excited. I’ll be staunch.

Tonight I went to the gym and did a full chest work out. I weighed in lighter than ever before at the gym. I didn’t run, instead deciding to stay home and eat pizza with the kid while he watched a DVD before bed. It was good fun. I wondered though, is pizza really an Italian dish or is it a commercial invention (the Italian connection)? Can you actually order a pizza at Italian restaurants?
More running tomorrow…maybe an hour. At the end of the month I will recap on what I have achieved so far this year.

I did a short run of 40 minutes and tackled a new route which took me through a quieter part of town. The only drawback was the lack of street lights and poor condition of the sidewalk. It was slow going. I also went to the gym and worked the back starting with chinups and progressing to the usual rows etc. I like it when its quiet.

is the secret code word for McDonalds shared by my male friends and my son. Thats where I went for lunch today with my colleagues from work. Ate 800 cals in one sitting. Tonight I had to make up for it so I ran another 50 minute run around the harbour. Thats three 50 plus minute runs in a row this week. Not fast by any means but steady. The harbour was still and the huge moon was shining but the tide was so far out I thought a tsunami was coming. There were a couple of fishermen out, but I couldn’t understnd what they were doing there at low tide. When I made it home I took out the garbage,.. its my last week of covering for my sons chores while he is in New York. Next week I will be paying him to do it…shirker.

I did a bicep and tricep workout tonight and then hit the road for a 45 minute run through the city. A storm had passed by so I sought shelter from the waterfront wind among the buildings. The storm was not a direct hit but there was intermittent wind and rain nonetheless. The run felt good and i tried the "pull the road toward me" technique that I learnt from VTDad. It worked for me too…helped me bound up that long and deceptively difficult hill in the city. I need to dvelop more routes. I am getting fitter…it cant be avoided.

I didn’t run Saturday…,life got in the way. I didn’t run Sunday, cos of household politics. I ran today though for 64 mins with trackpants on. It was hot afternoon run and hard work. Before the run I weighed 222.6 lbs, after the run I weighed 219.8 lbs. This loss must be due to what they call water weight - a phenomena I haven’t come to grips with yet but have seen referenced regularly on the site. Hopefully I wont miss another run before next Saturday. I also went to the gym and did a full shoulder workout. Yeah! thats punishment for missing out on working out all weekend.
