I’ve got back issues and can’t do a lot of otherwise good ab exercises. But, it’s led me to experiment with the big exercise ball because that works. I’ve tried with it lower down on my back and further up hitting my shoulders; both feel different. When it’s between your shoulder blades, keep your torso flat (don’t let your butt sag down) using your abs…touch your fingers to the floor on either side for balance only, and alternate marching your feet slowly. I also make sure I’m working my lower back to stay in balance with my ab work.

Abs is all about diet, not exercise. How clean are you eating? Also, how much weight training are you doing? Are you doing cardio before or after weights? All these factors, play into whether or not your abs show. I carry all my fat in the abdominal area so for my abs to show I must get really low in bodyfat. So your body makeup plays into also.

Diet is huge! Too much sodium the day before or not enough water and I’m hating my abs the next day. I think Tosca Reno’s book Clean Eating makes for a good foundation for what to eat.
